24 days to DragonCon. Yikes!

As usual there are spoilers behind the cut and in the comments.

This marks the halfway point in this saga and things did happen. The story did move forward. And the ending did up the stakes for some of our characters.

This time I noticed what was missing and has been missing since the Second season of Torchwood, which is the occasional humor. There were funny bits that made you laugh and cringe at the same time. Right now everyone has a dark cloud over them and making quips even about the current situation seems hollow. I understand that Torchwood is dark and edgy but dark and edgy with no soul isn’t very satisfying. I actually prefer the over all arcs of a season with done in one episodes and others that move the plot forward.

The new characters have problems and the old characters have a boatload of problems and issues. The Emo on this series is palpable. There are the beginnings of comradeship among the characters but there is a lot of bickering and pissing matches as well.

I will continue to watch in hopes of improvement.

I am grateful for Angry Birds.

Peter saw the solution of the ovens coming a mile away. But neither of us expected Vera to join and depart Torchwood that fast. Right now if Captain Jack Harkness appeared at my door offering me a job at Torchwood, I would say no thank you and close the door. The life expectance of a Torchwood member is getting shorter and shorter with each person joining.

Bill Pullman pulled in another sociopathic performance with masterful skill. Oswald Danes is just scary.

Another problem I am having is that Jack (Yes, I know he is the last mortal) not doing anything but standing and brooding. It is not the Jack I have come to know and love. It’s like this isn’t the real Jack.

The idea of categories of death would be what the human race comes up with to solve the ongoing problem. And it is damn scary.

So going to stick with it to the bitter end but not happy about the first half.

I've scrolled fast through your review as in the UK we are a week behind and I don't want to spoil myself for our Thursday night live Twitter event.

Have I recommended Snark & Fury's recaps of Torchwood to you? You'll never think of the show in quite the same way again. :)

I saw the oven thing coming as well. To me it's an obvious answer to immortal bodies. Bodies that aren't bodies anymore but returned to their constituent molecules (albeit oxidized molecules) seems the only answer. It takes care of the overpopulation issue. In some way this almost makes the categorization humane. If a person is in pain but not going to get better, a few minutes of incineration is a permanent fix (and takes the bad germs living on them with them).

Unfortunately, the foreshadowing from the chauvinistic bastard that killed the doctor made the moment too Holocaust-ish for me. Remember he makes some Nazi-like comment to her when she started ratcheting up the pressure. In some way this is old school Torchwood, where good people/characters do die.

I'm a bit with you on Jack, but I'm almost willing to chalk it up to his new found mortality really playing havoc with his mojo. On the other hand I also think that Jack's mortality and everyone's immortality are directly linked. It gives you a rough count of how many times Jack can be killed if you look at this as all his immortality being ripped from him and given to the rest of the population. I expect that the secret to the Miracle is something along those lines, that they took his life energy and spread it out. When he finds a way to get it back I expect we get the old reckless Capt. Jack back in spades.

I didn't see the ovens coming (I tend not to even try to figure things out when I watch shows or read - I just let things unfold as I hope the author intended) and was of course horrified. Humans always seem to be the biggest Big Bad in the end- or even before the end. I agree with you about Jack being lame this season but I'm going to stick with it and hope he redeems himself...

We're a week behind, hence my not commenting until now, but I've been very disappointed with this season. The fact that my husband could miss four episodes and not really have missed anything is Not Good. This was the first episode that really felt like something was happening and to have taken so long to have got here is ridiculous. And we are still only really left with one question, which is what/who caused Miracle Day, when I'd like to be at a point where I have lots of unanswered questions.

I'm still watching out of brand loyalty than anything else. There are some major names behind this and I expect better, to be honest.
