NWR for Vampires of Venice

But first my short review of the end of LOST. Spoiler free and I ask that the comments are the same. I’m OK with that explanation but I am not loving it since it was the one that they said it wasn’t after the first season but it really was but a slightly different version of it. Also, considering all the padding they had this season, the very end (aka the answer) seemed rather rushed. So not the best ending of all times nor the worst

Ok back to the good Doctor who has some issues (heck he has the whole subscription) deciding to helps some other people with their issues with mixed results for them and for him.

The costumes in this one were fun but the Beeb has always done well with costume drama. We get to know Rory better and it amazes me how polarizing that one character is in fandom. Personally, I am hoping that we get more time with Rory and Amy.

More about the villains in the spoilers section. They are doggone hard to talk about without spoilers really.

Anyway it looked good and again felt like an episode that you could drop just about any Doctor in and it would have worked. I think that is interesting that RTD’s Doctor Who was very much his playground and you couldn’t see another Doctor doing what his Doctor did but here Moffat is producing episodes that could be just about any of the Doctors probably with slightly different results. And I am enjoying that. It feels more connected to old Who than RTD’s run did (I’m not saying that RTD’s work is not Doctor Who or in the DW universe).

OK the Vampires who are not Vampires. I am OK with that but just OK. I was kind of disappointed that we weren’t picking up the Vampires of yore (State of Decay) even though they were in E-Space at the time (Raise you hand if you remember E-Space). But the explanation of who these creatures were and how they came to be was really interesting. So we can save the e-space critters for later.

I am liking Rory. He is playing the jilted lover but he doesn’t know if he is really jilted and he has an inferiority complex to the Raggedy Doctor. How can he hold a candle to someone who can travel through space and time? He does have courage and does deal with just the strangeness of traveling with the Doctor very well. I know he is around for a couple of episodes but I am honestly hoping he is there for the season. The third player this time doesn’t seem like a third wheel or contrived.

The themes of sacrifice and trust are again presented to us. How much do you trust me? How much can I trust you? What will you give to be with me? What will I give to make you happy?

Over all very happy with this one. Next we have Amy’s Choice.

I am grateful for new/old Who.

I wasn't crazy about this episode. I don't know if it's because it was written as though any Doctor could have been inserted (hey, a one-size-fits-all!) or if it was the storyline or...I really don't know. I can't put a finger on it. Maybe I'll rewatch it.

I think a lot can be done with Rory, so I'd like to see him stay on the way Mickey did back the Rose days. I can see him being a character that reveals himself as time goes on. Yeah, OK, he's a bit of a cipher right now, but that's because he hasn't been given much screen time, with or without Amy.

"Amy's Choice" includes Rory. More issues of trust and sacrifice. I'll be curious to see what you think about it.

See if you can acquire the Confidential episode...lots of behind the scene tours of Venice..talking with a nobleman who's ancestor was part of the plague quarantiners...interesting stuff you'd like.

I too was hoping they were heading for the old vampires...but they open a kettle of fish (sorry) involving Time Lords and Galifrey I don't think the show is ready to handle quite yet.

I like Amy and her character... but I'm not sure how I feel about Rory. I'm not sure he's over the initial shock of everything going on around him.

The doctor and Amy are excited about the vampires.. .. but Rory seemed the one still clinging to the reality of how much danger they are in. I liked the line where Rory told the Doctor how Dangerous he is.. Cause Rory seems to see the Doctor.. and understand things that take much longer for other people to realize.

Personally, I'm just happy that the show is on and I'm enjoying the stories they are telling :)

This episode had some very good lines, iirc. And it's catchier, as the time goes on.

I actually love the way Moffat's Who is more like the oldskool stuff.
