When I was a kid I remember one of the first TV show that I watched with my parents was "Get Smart". As a child I probably laughed mostly at the physical humor of the piece rather than the clever use of language. I always loved the opening with the doors leading to the phone booth. When I was a teen, I went with my friends to see "The Nude Bomb" in the theaters. I saw the "Get Smart Again" movie when it was first aired back in 1989 when I was up at Yale. I did not know about the new series in 1995 until recently. That show has been in my life as long as I could remember.

When I saw the teaser trailer in the Movie theater, Peter and I looked at each other and said, "We are so there."

And we were. On Friday we went to see the new "Get Smart" movie and I was not disappointed. The writers knew the TV series really well. They lovingly put in all the stuff that made "Get Smart" the show I watched as a kid.

Someone said that Steve Carell was genetically engineered to play Maxwell Smart and I have to agree. He has the mannerisms down to a "t". Anne Hathaway is fine as 99. Alan Arkin looks like he is having too much fun as the Chief. I loved the confrontation at the music hall with him and the guard. Masi Oka and Nate Torrence do a great job as the R&D division of Control. There are some nice cameos too included Bernie Copell.

The script is not Shakespeare but this is 'Get Smart' so I was not expecting that. But it was a solid episode of the series. It had all the tropes you want to hear like "Sorry about that Chief"; "Missed it by that much"; & "Would you believe..." which was one of my favorite parts of the original.

It is a good pop-corn summer movie with action and comedy. Plenty of bang for your buck.

I am grateful that this movie did feel so much like the TV show.

I loved Get Smart! I thought it was hilarious and light and perfectly reminiscent of the show. I definitely think the movie will be more appreciated by those who watched the TV series regularly because of all the throw backs to the show. :)
