When I was a kid I remember one of the first TV show that I watched with my parents was "Get Smart". As a child I probably laughed mostly at the physical humor of the piece rather than the clever use of language. I always loved the opening with the doors leading to the phone booth. When I was a teen, I went with my friends to see "The Nude Bomb" in the theaters. I saw the "Get Smart Again" movie when it was first aired back in 1989 when I was up at Yale. I did not know about the new series in 1995 until recently. That show has been in my life as long as I could remember.

When I saw the teaser trailer in the Movie theater, Peter and I looked at each other and said, "We are so there."

And we were. On Friday we went to see the new "Get Smart" movie and I was not disappointed. The writers knew the TV series really well. They lovingly put in all the stuff that made "Get Smart" the show I watched as a kid.

Someone said that Steve Carell was genetically engineered to play Maxwell Smart and I have to agree. He has the mannerisms down to a "t". Anne Hathaway is fine as 99. Alan Arkin looks like he is having too much fun as the Chief. I loved the confrontation at the music hall with him and the guard. Masi Oka and Nate Torrence do a great job as the R&D division of Control. There are some nice cameos too included Bernie Copell.

The script is not Shakespeare but this is 'Get Smart' so I was not expecting that. But it was a solid episode of the series. It had all the tropes you want to hear like "Sorry about that Chief"; "Missed it by that much"; & "Would you believe..." which was one of my favorite parts of the original.

It is a good pop-corn summer movie with action and comedy. Plenty of bang for your buck.

I am grateful that this movie did feel so much like the TV show.

There's a DVD out with an original movie that continues the story of the R&D guys. I tried looking it up on Amazon, but I couldn't find it.

I'm so glad you posted this entry. Like you, I was an avid Get Smart fan in my youth. I was torn about seeing the movie since I was sure that they would muck it up somehow. But now I can't wait to see it!

Great to hear. I watched it as a kid, too. The 1995 series was weird, as Andy Dick is on it. :/ I always loved seeing which car Max would get into in the opening sequence, since Nick at Nite showed them in a random order. :)

I agree—I saw it last night and it was a LOT of fun. Very enjoyable, and with quite a few laugh-out-loud moments.

Oh, YAY! I thought it looked like a keeper from the trailers, but, of course, you never know, so I'm very happy to hear I was right. :)

Huge Get Smart fan from back when they used to show GOOD programs on Nick at Nite.

Also saw the movie opening night and loved it.

Steve Carell really does look exactly like Max, it's amazing. And they even had the Cone of Silence! :D

What a fun movie it was! I took my 13 year old and a friend of his and they both thought it was good. When I mentioned the tv show my son said "There's was a tv show?"

I liked it, too...and I liked that Steve C did not really make any attempt to be Don Adams...these things are better when they throw a few nods to the reference material, but then go in another direction...in this case, they had the catch phrases, they had the tiny car part, and they had Hathaway looking good in retro outfits. Honestly, between this and that Prada movie, I'm convinced that if they have any movie where Hathaway is dressing up, I'm in for it.....

I loved Get Smart! I thought it was hilarious and light and perfectly reminiscent of the show. I definitely think the movie will be more appreciated by those who watched the TV series regularly because of all the throw backs to the show. :)

I saw this last night with the ladies I teach with here at camp. We enjoyed it. Even the lady (my roomie) who dislikes Steve Carell had to admit it was a cute movie (despite him). I loved the Bernie Copell cameo. :-)
