You might like Ben Folds Five.

Also, if you like show tunes, I recommend (if you haven't heard it) Randy Newman's Faust, featuring Randy, James Taylor, Elton John, Bonnie Raitt, Linda Ronstadt, and more. Great album.

Since you like U2 I think you'll also like the group Keane, they're very good. And you might also like Donovan Frankenreiter.

I'm always looking to get more people hooked on Tempest -- Celtic/folk rock, with a Norwegian lead singer and a series of lunatics on the electric fiddle. You've gotta love a band that can get you headbanging to "Tam Lin"!

I must recommend my favorite band, Eddie From Ohio (http://www.efohio.com/). They're a long-established "alterna-folk" band from Northern Virginia. I've been listening to their stuff for well over a decade.

I like all and love most of the artists/genres you have on your list, so I figure our tastes must mesh pretty closely and EFO will be a safe bet. Their site has full versions of about a dozen of their songs streaming on their main page, so you can sample them for free.

On the other end of my personal time continuum, I just picked up a CD by Great Big Sea (http://www.greatbigsea.com/). I've loved their cover of "End of the World as We Know It" for years. I just heard another of their songs, "Ordinary Day," as the bed for a pretty decent Doctor Who vid the other day, which prompted me to get their CD "Rant and Roar." So that might be worth a listen for you as well.

I'll second Great Big Sea, and throw in Oysterband and Boiled in Lead.

Try giving Artificial Joy Club a go. They only had one album, but it's fun-tabulous.

I've been rediscovering vintage Billy Joel lately.

When you make it to Atlanta, I'll see about sitting you down and playing you some Nick Drake.

You might try Pandora.com. Basically, it's a pretty cool program. You put in the bands you like, and it plays those, plus suggests new ones according to the music you've inputted. They analyze not just the music, but the singers voices, the lyrics etc. They've come up with some pretty cool ones for me, from bands I've never heard of. I worked in a music store for quite a time and became familiar with a lot of off-the-wall stuff, but Pandora definitely found me some new music to love on. You can also have different 'stations' for instance I have 'rock', 'easy', 'fifties', 'dance, and 'world'. The easy and fifties genres sometimes cross modulate, but hey, I can see where that would happen LOL
