Ariel and I went to see the 12:05AM showing of HP&TGOF at the local cinema this morning. It was almost Peter and Ariel due to Miss Caroline getting tired of her mother disappearing for long stretches of time. I think she thought it was going to be like October again where Mommy goes away and returns after she goes to sleep. She was extra clingy and needed a lot of face time. We managed to get her to bed before we had to leave. And it was a good thing we went when we did. The theater was already more than half full with lots of people pouring in for seats. We managed to snag two really nice ones, sat down, and played hang man until the commercials started. (I really want to know why I am paying almost $10.00 a ticket to see 20 minutes of commercials and previews before we get to the previews attached to the film.)
There are spoilers behind the cut including what was included and excluded in the film so you have been warned!
My short review is best Harry Potter film to date. My slightly longer unspoiled review is that it is a crime that Mike Newell is not directing the next film because he had the perfect touch for this one. Nor will we have screenwriter Steve Kloves who did a great job with trimming the book down to a movie. All the kids are great and the new additions fit in just fine. I am no longer at all concerned about David Tennant playing Dr. Who. Ralph Finnes brings a whole new meaning to evil as well you know who. They managed to break down the book to its core elements and tell a rocking story that flies by.
I am grateful I was silly enough to go to a Midnight Showing of this film
