Top of the Rock
Nov. 17th, 2005 12:20 pmI got my new battery and charged it up overnight and now my laptop is portable again. *grin* Amazing how a little thing like not having a cord attached to your computer makes one feel better. Now if I can just figure out why it is running slow.
Yesterday was a good day that had a bad start which turned out to be a good thing in disguise. Caroline had a bad dream at 4:00 AM and was crying in her bed to the point that we knew that one of us would have to get up with her. I chose me because Peter would be taking care of Caroline the rest of the day. I pick her up and try to sit down in the rocking chair that is in her room. She didn't want to be in her room. She ran downstairs and curled up on the couch. I changed her diaper, gave her some milk, and cover her with her blanket. She wanted a baseball and a softball she has been carrying around for the past couple of days. I gave those to her and told her it was still bedtime and she needed to stay put.
While she stayed put I dealt with all the stuff I needed to take with me to the city. I repacked my bag, Made sure my cell phone was charged. Cleaned up the kitchen. And did Ariel's laundry so she would have sweatpants to bowl in that afternoon. By that time Caroline kept trying to get up and play but I wouldn't let her so she told me that she was ready to go back to bed. I put her back and she went to sleep. I then went back to bed at 5:47 and got up at 8:30 to catch my 9:20 train.
Train ride was the usual. I went to get my replacement battery for the iBook and then had some lunch with friends I hadn't seen in a while. After that Glenn gave me a ride uptown to the Disney Store so I could catch up with Sean and Rozana. I found them and took them on a walking tour of some of my favorite parts of Rockefeller Center. Recently they have reopened the observation deck to tourists and they call it "Top of the Rock." The reviews I has heard said it was worth the ticket price. Sean on a whim wanted to see what kind of wait there would be. The answer was close to none. In many ways it reminded me of a Disney ride. There were the educational films and charts and then there were the decks. I will say it was worth the price of admission. We had clouds rolling in but the view was spectacular!
We pointed and looked for a good hour before we had figured we had seen just about everything then we found this room. We were crossing from one side to the other to get back down when we entered a white room. On the door was an LCD Screen with the room drawn out. It took us a moment to figure out that were we were in the space was being represented on the screen. Above our heads were different colored lightings. Sean was red, Rozana was green and I was blue. We could combine the colors if we stood next to each other. We played around with it for a while. I wonder how many people walk through that room and don't realize what is happening.
After that we walked back to the hotel and sat down for a bit. We went to John' Pizza for dinner and then off to Avenue Q. The play holds up to repeat viewings. I will admit this time I was watching the puppeteers a little more closely than the puppets but that is to be expected. I hadn't realized that I was taking Sean and Rozana to their first Broadway show until after the show. Tonight they continue their Broadway experience with Spamalot. I made the train and got home very late.
I am grateful that I spent time with Sean and Rozana yesterday and that Peter let me sleep in this morning.
