Ariel, Shana, and Gwen lost their maternal grandfather yesterday. Marty Kasman died of natural causes. I think anyone who knew him would agree that he was a really sweet guy with a great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family.

Getting ready for "United Fan Con" was a race for the finish line and the ferry. We managed to get everything together and so far we have only been missing a few things here and there. The hotel is very nice and attached to a mall. I swear I have been here before for some convention because it looks just that familiar or maybe I have been to one too many conventions by this point. I also remember why the name Springfield was so familiar and it was not because of the Simpsons. I wonder if I will be seeing some people here I haven't seen in more than 15 years.

They have a "meet the guest party" on Friday night. Peter went down for a bit then came back up for dinner and we went back down as a family. Caroline was being her usual cute self. She found the Oreos and sat down happily munching a cookie. Ariel had wanted to get Matthew Lewis' (Neville Longbottom) autograph. We found out that he was there Friday and only part of Saturday because he was going to New York for the American Premire of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." Then he would be back Sunday but Ariel would be gone. So her hopes for an autograph are pinned to 10 AM this morning. She is not too worried about talking to him since we ended up chatting for about an hour and a half at the party. We talked about the movie, movies he likes, English football, and a number of those subjects. Very nice articulate young man who is already good with fans.

Sylvester McCoy is here as well. He did remember me for the Dr. Who puppet that I gave him a number of years ago. He said almost exactly the same thing Peter Davison said, 'Please tell me that you are still making puppets." To which I could honestly answer yes. Mira Furlan is here too. She is an old friend of Peter's from Babylon 5 although more fans are recognizing her for her appearance on LOST. We had great fun chatting with people and then retired for the evening.

Today looks like another fun day at the convention. Peter has a table so he can sign stuff for people. Ariel and I are going to do joint Caroline duty. And I am going to play with some of my puppets today.

I am grateful that I knew Marty.
