For those who celebrate it, Happy Solstice Y'all.

Not as much done as I would like but I can make up the time today. I am debating about entering workmanship this year. I am putting a lot of work into the costumes but I am not sure that they are so whiz-bang wonderful that I could win anything for them. Of course I heard a number of people tell me that I missed out on an award for Schleper because I didn’t enter it. Sort of the old phrase if you don’t enter you can’t win. Part of the reason is that I don’t want my warm bodies to have to get to the costume call an hour before everyone for 5 minutes of judging. Ariel is of the belief that I should do so and leave it up to the participants if they want to help or not. Part of workmanship, as I understand it, is recognizing the work that went into the costumes. Until last year I had a problem getting the judges to recognize exactly how much work and detail went into my costumes because most of them were based on puppetry techniques rather than costuming. I finally won last year because the workmanship judges understood what I was doing and how much went into doing it. I finally won for the puppets at Farpoint.

I already know that we are going into the Champion’s Cup this year since which can be very stiff competition. It is good that we have that category to allow new people the chance for the win without worrying about the people who “always” win in their category. I can remember people deciding not to do a costume because they found out that either the Stringers or the Blackpools were going to be competing. Eventually the Blackpools went their separate ways and the Stringers slowed down the number of shows that they entered. Now at DragonCon there are a couple of groups that have done well in the costume call to the point that it might be a good idea to have a Master Class level to enter at. Costuming and Costumers seems to come in waves. The number of entries goes down for a couple of years after a strong showing by a couple of groups or individuals that dominant but eventually you get new people who get bit by the costuming bug and start competing. I have no idea how many are going to enter this year but I am not expecting the number to be small.

In bowling we won 8 point and possibly 11 depending on the rules for the league. I did better than I had done the first two weeks but not as well as last week. If we lost the last game, we lost by a pin which is very frustrating.

Mommy and Me is done until July so I have some extra time to work on costumes for a couple of weeks. We are going to participate in the Summer session because Caroline needs time to work out socializing outside of the family with kids her age. It is going to be interesting to see how she and her cousin do at the beach this summer.

I am grateful for the costumers I have met over the years.
