Halloween is a bit of a deal around here. There are lights to be set up and graveyards that need to be put in place. There are comics to sorted.

Today Caroline and I are going to finish trimming the hedges and, at least, get the lights in place. If we get the whole graveyard up, it will be a bonus.

This year I am going to try something new with the fence that goes around the graveyard. It needs to be able to stand up to high winds and the elements.

Pictures depending on what we get done.

I am grateful that Caroline is so gung-ho to help this year.

One of the few things I miss about moving out to the country, Halloween. The street is a gravel road, there are no streetlights or sidewalks and the houses are roughly half a mile apart. No trick or treaters! :(

One year, I bought a scythe at a farmer's auction and painted it black. I wore my wife's full-length black skirt, a black turtle neck, a black cloak with a deep hood, white gloves, and a skull mask and I sat on a chair on our front porch and my wife stuffed newspapers down my neck and up my sleeves so I looked like a dummy. A kettle of candy was beneath my skirts. Kids would come up, yell "Trick or Treat!" and I'd stand up and give candy to whoever was left on the porch.

The last group of the night was three mommies mother henning about a dozen kids. One kid did not want to come up on the porch because 'that' (me) was there. The mommy said, "It's harmless. Watch. I'll sit on it's lap." Her screams could have shattered glass. I ended up with more candy than I started with because all the kids dropped their swag bags and ran when she started screaming. No one ever came back for them. :D
