Which I am putting under a cut because I am a little photo heavy on this one.
For about a week after the SDCC, the phrase I see most from people to one and other seems to be “You were THERE!?!? I didn’t see you.” Believe me when I tell you that seeing them would have been sheer happenstance because to the volume of people in that one city. I ran into my friend Anya Martin there just because we happened to cross paths.
Some people were at more fixed points and easier for me to find especially if they had a booth they were running. One of my fixed points were Mike and Janet Lee.

(for the VI: Mike is on the left and Janet on the right. Behind them is a banner with a man on the left looking up at a Man floating to the ground wearing a black and white coat on the right. Under the floating man is a young girl with red hair. Mike has a black and grey beard, a shaved head, and is wearing glasses and a black and white checked shirt. Janet has brown hair in a pageboy cut. She is wearing glasses, a black shirt and a black and white striped sweater. She had her drawing board in front of her and on the table are pieces of her art work)
They were kind enough to let me drop things off there to be picked up later.
Then there are the people that you meet just because you happen to be in the right place at the right time. I went to the Stan Lee World of Superheroes Panel because Peter was on it and I have a stake in what he was talking about because it was the show that we created together a couple of years ago entitled “Head Cases”. While there David Uslan (yes, son of Michael) introduced me to his friend Izzy.

(for the VI: I am standing next to a 6 foot 6 well build gentleman who plays football very well. He is wearing a black and white striped shirt, black jeans and red sneakers. I am wearing black pants, a black shirt with a grey collar, and brown shoes)

Peter and Stan getting ready for the panel. Stan the Man Lee is in the middle. I got my hug from Stan. I also got my hug from Mark Hamill on the fly. I did really well in the hug department this year.
Randomhouse has a party at SDCC for book sellers and the RH authors. Peter and I went and chatted with a number of people. We grabbed a table early in the party because later they can be hard to get. Warren and Caroline Spector sat down with us and we were shortly joined by George RR Martin, Christopher Paolini, Robert Greenberger, and Michael Jan Friedman. A fun time was had by all. A lot of other people drifted in and out of the conversation. I had a nice conversation with Chris’ sister Angie too.

Peter and Warren Spector
(for the VI: These were taken in really low light so they are hard to see. Warren is in the foreground and Peter is in the background. They are both wearing black shirts.)

Told you this was going to be photo heavy
Another panel Peter was on was the Epic Mickey II with Warren Spector, Marv Wolfman and Rebecca Cline. The Oswald ears were considered a pretty good prize to get at the Convention.

From left to right wearing their Oswald ears with pride are Warren Spector, Marv Wolfman, and Peter David. (Peter didn’t get the Hawaiian Shirt Memo)
I have known the Pinis for a very long time. A number of years ago Peter got a tattoo of Leetah from Elfquest on his arm and we kept joking that I should get Cutter. So as a gag, Wendy drew a quick sketch on my arm.

Peter’s real tattoo of Leetah and my fake tattoo of Cutter (best fake tattoo ever!)
I got to talk Paul Cornel, Bill Sienkiewicz, Eric Shandower, and a host of other really fun people.
During the last hour that I was at the convention, we had a moment of SDCC magic that was so nice. Years ago Peter did a TV series called Space Cases (we have come to the conclusion that Peter can only sell shows with the word “cases” in them) and the leader of the group was played by a wonderful actor named Walter Jones who is probably better know as the original Black Power Ranger. Peter hadn’t seen Walter since the Space Cases wrapped. At his last signing at the Marvel booth he found Walter waiting for him. They did a fast catch up and were so happy to see each other.

I am grateful for everyone I got to talk to during SDCC.
