For many today it is Ash Wednesday. The beginning of Lent and a time of reflection and contemplation. Caroline is giving up Chocolate for Lent which is a big deal considering how much she enjoys chocolate. I don’t think Happy Lent is quite right so I will say that those who observe, I hope you have a smooth Lent.

Today is the first day in a while that I woke up and was breathing through my nose and not my mouth. I am still stuffy but not to the degree I was over the weekend. And, for the first time since Friday, my sinus headache is not all encompassing. I can think without feeling like I have to work my way through the pain fog to think. The tinnitus is still going strong but I have learned ways over the years to ignore it.

I wonder if it is as quiet in New Orleans as it uses to be on Ash Wednesday.

The cats are taking turns sleeping at my hip. I think in their own kitty way that they missed me.

It is nice to get back home. I do feel a little more focused after going away for a week. It was nice spending some time with old friends and sharing those experiences that will be remembered fondly down the road.

But now I need to shift focus and get back to making stuff for this year’s Art Shows. That and taking care of the house which I think will include laundry today.

I am very grateful that my breathing is returning to normal.

For Yom Kippur, we use the phrase "Have an easy fast."

Tell my goddaughter that her godmother gave up chocolate for Lent once. Once.

(This year it's Facebook, so you may be seeing more of me here as a result.)

Hello...delurking...

The first time I went through the transition of Mardi Gras to Ash Wednesday, I immediately thought, "Gee, this is just like 'Return of the Archons' from Star Trek." Okay, maybe not exactly, but it was eerie how the change just took over the city. Except for tourists who still were wearing beads and trying to party hardy, getting glares from the locals.

And now, we do have a will of "Landru" or rather, "Landrieu". =)
