OK Now THAT’S the Torchwood I know and love.
This felt like Torchwood and, even though we don’t know how yet, it did advance the plot.
Yes, there were some basic problems with the story but again that’s Torchwood.
Spoilers behind the cut because I can’t really talk much more about it without talking about something that might be considered a spoiler.
I am grateful when a plan comes together.
Notice that when Oswald and Jilly are gone, the show is more interesting. Two good actors who have been given some rather carp roles that haven’t gone anywhere really.
This was Jack and Gwen having it out and I loved it.
We now have some of the reasons behind the beginnings of the Miracle.
We have a new character and calling the group behind it as the Family makes a little sense now.
I am hoping that we don’t get a whole howl about the non-PC of the episode because it played it true for the time and the beliefs.
I did like Angelo and Jack trying to make him a companion. It was nice to see it tied back to its origins in Doctor Who.
And Kudos to Eve Myles for the speech in the car about Gwen’s true feelings about Torchwood to Jack. That was just so beautifully done.
Also Poor Jack when he is down in the meat locker with the crowd. He can feel all the pain that they inflict but keeps coming back. Then the arguments between if he is a miracle or a curse. If he is an angel or a demon. Also notice that the older women were gathering his blood. The horror of it was in the mob mentality when confronted by something they don’t understand.

That meat locker scene... ouch! I felt really bad with everyone going at him with axes and stuff - that's gotta hurt!

Date: 2011-08-26 09:36 am (UTC)Seven episodes in and I can still sum the whole thing up in a couple of sentences. That's not good for a series that's known for action, drive, adventure, passion, strong storylines. If they'd told the same story per ep in half hour bites I think it would be so much better.
I am also hating them taking all the ambiguity out of Jack's sexuality and making him purely gay. I take your point about it being historically accurate, but that just makes me loathe all the more the episode in the past when he snogged an army officer in full view of everyone and then abandoned him to deal with the fall out. I don't like seeing sex scenes for the sake of them and I really didn't need to see him shagging. I don't find John Barrowman attractive so it was just gratuitous for me without even going "ooh! Look at his chest!"
And the meat locker scene? I thought it was hilarious. Maybe I've seen too much horror, but I thought it was funny and I laughed when they went after him with knives.
