Ok this was much more like it. We are almost halfway through and this felt like Torchwood again. The other episodes had Torchwood characters in them and they played with the name but this was Torchwood.

Spoilers behind the cut and in the comments.

I am grateful for a series that finally feels like itself again.

Finally there is proactive rather than reactive episode. I know they were playing introduction to people who hadn’t a clue what Torchwood was and they had to set up the story, but now it needs to move forward.

They also set up a couple of ticking clocks in motion for the rest of the series. Gwen’s Dad, Ester’s sister and nieces, and I am figuring eventually Rex’s Dad is going into the mix. The only person who doesn’t have anyone is Jack.

The raid on PhiCorp is where I felt that Torchwood vibe even when it goes horribly wrong. Less wringing of hands and more action.

Also give Pullman some serious acting props for the scene outside and then inside the hospital. He pulled it off and made me believe how much of a snake Danes is.

Also the “demise” of Ellis Hartley Monroe was pretty fracking terrifying. And now we have a name “the Families” to go with the omnipresent big bad.

So now they have information to act on and how are they going to act on it?

See, I love torchwood for the pace the had during the last mini-series. I couldn't stop watching it. Unfortunately, I think there's a perception that american audiences won't be able to keep up with the 'pace' of what torchwood was. Also, they have more episodes to tell the story (I think) so they are letting things gradually build.

From the preview, I'm definately thinking I'm going to like the next episode. I get the feeling we still haven't hit the bottom yet. That moment where we go.. "Oh Shit! We are in a hell of alot of trouble!".

I know we haven't gotten to that point yet. And that's when I think the action will pick up.
