I don’t remember when I first heard “the journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step”. I do know it was a very long time ago and that phrase has stuck with me. Beginnings can be fun or scary or necessary. Many times the ends don’t match what you thought at the beginning the ending was going to be. That has happened a lot to me in my life.

But one has to start somewhere and move on from that point. Starting can be hard. That first step can feel like a doozy and in the middle you wonder if you are ever going to be done or if you bit off more than you can chew. The middle of the journey can be both the most exciting and the most frustrating part at the same time.

Once you get to the end, you look back and see what you would have done differently or, on some occasions, know that you did exactly what you needed to do.

Right now I am at the start point on a couple of projects and the end of a couple as well. I am at my musing phase on the projects to come even though I have started buying some of the stuff I need. I need to start sewing soon if I am going to be able to make my deadlines for stuff.

I am grateful for the first step, the last step and all the steps in between.

May the journey be pleasant! Or, as the Irish say:

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back.

I still prefer the axiom, "Every journey begins with a full tank of gas and a cup of coffee."

And so often, be it working on a project or just trying to get housework done, I get stuck in the "starting" phase and know that if I can just get started, that everything else will fall into place... But starting is often the hardest part of any task.
