An Epic Day in the City

Adventures come in all forms and from all directions in my life. Yesterday was one of those that I will long remember. A couple of months ago I wrote about the Epic Mickey game and the Apps for the iPhone and the iPad and how Peter contributed to them. Because he is the digicomic author, he was invited to the launch of the game at the Time Square Disney Store from 7:00am to 10:00am on November 30th, which was the roll-out date for the game. He brought Caroline and me along with him for the festivities. The rest of the tale along with pictures are under the cut
We got up at 4:30 am to drive into the city and hit minimal traffic considering where we were trying to go. They were already warning about gridlock within the city due to the tree lighting at Rockefeller Center on the electronic traffic boards. We got in and parked. There was a line to get in but we were VIPs so we got our badges and went on in only to come out to find Warren who was outside looking at the digital screen they have above the store where they were displaying a video about the game.

Peter, Warren Spector, Caroline, and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in front of the Time Square Disney Store before the Launch party started.
They were handing out Mickey Gloves and special New York City Mickey Mouse Ears to the crowd and had a breakfast truck handing out very yummy Belgian waffles along with coffee and water and tea. So the crowd was happy and fed. The weather wasn’t too cold so waiting in line was not the chore it can be. The Disney employees played trivia games with the crowd. Caroline was able to quickly answer a question about Tink’s fairy friends that the adults were stymied on.
We went in and upstairs where the layout was explained to us. They had a plan to move people through and get their Good Morning America segments in. Caroline settled down in the princess area and read a book while this was all going on.
Kyle Massey and Jennifer Grey were on hand to sign these special E-Tickets that were giving out with the game. There was a lot of press on hand to take pictures of them and Warren who looked a little stunned.

They did the Good Morning America segments and people got a lot of stuff signed. Caroline got to play with Stella, Jennifer’s daughter and I got to talk briefly to Clark Gregg, her husband but I didn’t twig to the fact that he was in Iron Man until today.
We talked to various people about various things and had a good time. The goodie bag had some really cool swag including a good winter jacket. And a really cool pen that is shaped like the paint brush.
We then went home, had lunch, and collapsed.
I am grateful that we had this opportunity and to the Disney Store staff who made the event work.

Date: 2010-12-01 08:16 pm (UTC)There are times like this when I sort of wish I had enough vision to play games like this. Sounds like a lot of work and fun went into making it.
very, very cool.
