The other day Peter and I were talking about various things and among the topics covered were the Long Island Ducks which are an Atlantic League team much closer to our house than the Mets are. We typically go to a couple of games. Tickets are 10 to 15 dollars and you get to see the old greats and the up and comers. Playing for the Ducks gives one a great chance of being seen by the New York scouts among other leagues.

Last night we went to a game. The give-away was a baseball being sponsored by the hospital where Caroline was born. Ariel won the guess the attendance contest. Caroline hugged Quackerjack and got a baseball signed by Buddy Harrelson (69 Mets). I had fun watching my family have fun and enjoying a baseball game where you can hear the ball slap into the catcher’s mitt and a crack of the bat can be heard very clearly.

Peter and Caroline going over the Long Island Ducks Yearbook as Peter teaches Caroline how to score a game.

Today Peter and Caroline are off to see the Mets play the Rockies thanks to a family friend who can’t use his tickets today and offered them to us. It’s an early game (noon) so Peter will be home for bowling.

I am grateful for ballgames we can afford.

We live about 100 miles from Detroit, so attending a Major League game is a weekend trip, but my daughter and the kids often go to a smaller city 15 miles north to watch their local league play - tickets are about $10 but if you buy 3, one is free, plus the under-7 crowd sees it for free, which saves her paying for the twins. Good ball played, good sportsmanship encouraged and the kids get to interact with the players - my 12 year old grandson just loves discussing plays he's seen.

BTW - the pic of Peter and Caroline is just adorable.

The eggs look awesome - are they going to be for sale at DragonCon?

I love the picture of Peter and Caroline. It's full of awwwwwwwww. Especially with her wearing that baseball jersey (and their mitts at the ready. :D) I rarely went to baseball games as a kid, but I have fantastic memories of traveling in the car at night and listening to the games on the radio. It's still my favorite way to enjoy a baseball game - via commentary on the AM radio.

Thanks for sharing.

The first time we lived in SE VA ('90) we discovered the joys of minor league sports. Went to a couple of Peninsula Pilots games and had a grand time! After we moved back out here again ('97) we became enthusiastic fans of the local ECHL team. They were replaced with an AHL franchise the same time R went to Korea so we fell out of the habit for a while but I started going to games again in '01 and we became season ticket holders a couple of years later. I hated giving up our seats last year! But we love seeing 'our' boys do their stuff when we watch NHL games on TV. :)
