Again we have a story that you could drop just about any Doctor in, which I like. We have the return of a very old Who adversary (I won’t say villain since they have their POV which allows us to sympathize just a bit with them just not too much). We have some more companion taking the bull by the horns brava.

I am liking this series more and more. It feels more like old Who every week. I am wondering if some old scripts are getting dug up and refitted for this Doctor. Honestly I would recommend this season to those who couldn’t get into New Who because it was different.

And I continue to love Rory as a foil for the Doctor but how he has his own mind about what should be done. Sort of Harry Sullivan on steroids but with less of a bumble factor.

I am grateful how things are shaping up for the end of the season

Again I remind readers that there will be spoilers in the comments but only up to the end of Hungry Earth which is a two parter with Cold Blood being the conclusion.

I know some purists are upset about the revamp on the Siluriens but I am OK that there would be different types of them around the world.

Amy being taken out early so that the Doctor and Rory have to figure out what to do to save her and what they figure out is not the same thing but both ideas are valid after a fashion.

Making it a bubble that limits everything puts us in the locked room scenario which doesn’t allow for outside help to come in. It was a convenient way to eliminate a bunch of things that could have happened up to and including Torchwood.

The end is OK for a cliffhanger but I have a nagging feeling that something got cut in the process.

(Not reading the spoilers because I haven't watched any of the new series yet) But it's interesting the comparison to older stories, as one of my favorite Tennant stories (the one in the private school where he has turned himself into a human and locked his memories into the pocketwatch) was based on one of the novel written about a previous Doctor (Number 7 I think).

Yeah, Cornell re-wrote it for Ten.

I was noticing in this episode that it seems in the new Who once they drop into a place they leave the TARDIS and don't go back until the end of the adventure. Whereas I remember them going back to it all the time in the old series to pick stuff up or to mend wounded or whatever. I mean, in this episode Rory suggests going back to the TARDIS and the Doctor just dismisses the idea as not being feasible because they wouldn't have time to figure out how to get past the forcefield. Well, okay, but the TARDIS is still a secure place to stay and observe what's going on. It should have been the logical place to go.

I'm very interested by the doctor spotting future Rory and Amy across the landscape. What were they doing there? Will they come in to play in the second part?
