Graduating

A friend of the familly’s eldest daughter is graduating from High School. Her parents are having a party to celebrate this achievement and we have been invited to attended. Katie came to my wedding with her father. She is a sweet and giving person who enjoys life to the fullest but is very grounded for a teenager. She is well known in convention circles in the North East for her costumes. It is fun the celebrate these life achievements. I think in some ways it is more fun for me than before I had Caroline. I now have a daughter that will one day graduate from High School and go to college and become whatever she wants to be.
Some say that babies come into the world as blank slates and then become because of the world around them. Then others say that you are born with certain advantages and disadvantages due to genetics. The old nature vs. nurture theories. I think it is a little of both. There is some ‘hardwiring” to human beings that can’t be changed or at least so far it can’t be. According to Science Fiction, eventually it will be able to craft a person before they are even conceived. This scares me. I don’t think I would be me if I didn’t have the faults and flaws that I have. Some of what would be considered weaknesses have been strengths for me over time. Are there things I would change about me if I could? Sure. But unless you have reached enlightenment according to some there will always be something about your self you are not happy with. Overall I am pretty happy about the way I turned out and I am sure that I will be happy with however Caroline turns out.
