I think I saw the original movie at sometime on TBS but if I did I have a very hazy memory of it. I do know the premise and the payoff which I think at this time everyone does. Peter and I went to see the remake the other day. I have noticed that reviewers who had seen the original and liked it had issues with this version especially if they really liked it. I wanted to see it because I have liked Frank Oz’s direction in his previous films and the cast was kick ass, Glen Close, Nicole Kidmann, Bette Midler, Matthew Broderick, John Lovitz, Roger Bart (who was HILARIOUS) and Christopher Walken. The previous version had been a horror film but given the times, I don’t think that it would work as well as it did then. Instead he made it almost a comedy of manners. There were a few twists at the end that I was not expecting. There was also a loose plot thread that feels like there was a couple of rewrites that did not go all the way through the script. But those I could forgive for the belly laughs that were in the movie. I don’t think I have laughed that hard and loud in a film for quite a while.
