Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

I asked [livejournal.com profile] hangingfire to quiz me and I got the following

1. Big Finish's Doctor Who story anthologies
2. Thoughtful family posts
3. Puppets and dolls
4. Discworld
5. Fandom (and interesting perspectives thereon)

My answers are behind the

1. Big Finish's Doctor Who story anthologies
I had read a couple of the collections. I am a sucker for decent Dr. stories. I had never thought I would write anything past fanfic. Keith came to Peter and me with the offer to put a couple of ideas in the pitch and if ours were chosen, then we would write our short story for the anthology. Peter and I brain stormed and I will admit that our favorite ideas died due to either Big Finish or the Beeb saying no. But the William Wallace was given a go and I then pounded out over time the story that became “On a Pedestal”. It was a honor to be chosen and it was really cool to see my name in print as the author of a story.

2. Thoughtful family posts
I started this web log as a way for my parents and my brothers and sister to keep up with me and with Caroline. Much to my surprise, other people enjoyed reading about what was going on in our lives as well. My family both by blood and by choice is very important to me and always has been. I do think more about the family posts than the others. There are topics I need to avoid and subjects I might write up but don’t because I don’t want to cause a family member problems. This is also a way for me to keep up with what is happening with Caroline as she grows and her world expands so quickly.

3. Puppets and dolls
Puppets have always been part of my life. I can’t really remember a time before I liked puppets. They just are. Building them was an off-shoot of my love for them. I have learned a lot from fellow puppeteers and now I am teaching others how to make them.

Dolls were much later in my life. I didn’t know about art dolls or the rest of it until I saw a book by Susan Oroyan’s book Anatomy of a Doll and my perception of what was a doll changed drastically. I played around with it a little bit here and there. Mostly in conjunction with marionettes. Then I was lucky enough to take Wendy Froud’s doll making class and my eyes were open to the possibilities. My first doll is rather crude but I learned from it and from Wendy to where each time my art improved to the point that I am willing for the rest of the world to look at what I can do and am starting to get more comfortable with calling myself a doll maker.

4. Discworld
My sister-in-law got me into Discworld. She talked about the books at a family dinner and they sounded so in my wheelhouse that I went out and got a copy of “the color of magic” and read it in an afternoon. From there I have read most (but not all) of the Discworld books. I am still working on completing my reads. The Wyrd Sisters were the characters I think I enjoyed the most. So when I got a chance to make a set, I did.

5. Fandom (and interesting perspectives thereon)
Fandom is a funny thing. There are aspects of fandom that were being complained about before the Internet and they are still being complained about by the fans. On the whole I do love fandom. There are aspects I don’t like but it is nice to belong to a group that can be, and most of the time is these days, world-wide. I know Peter has fans all over the world. I have met fans of his at various conventions including ones in other countries. I am proud of my fandoms (numerous as they are) and proud to be a member of the science fiction community for over 25 years and heading rapidly to 30.

It is strange going from fan to pro. I think I know when I did the flip, but it still sometimes makes me smile when I am on a panel giving my wisdom to my fellow fans and they are listening very carefully to what I am saying as I did when I was going to panels to hear the panelists (I still do if I have time at a convention).

Overall I love fandom and am glad to declare myself as a fan of (fill in the blank)
