When I was in college our classes ran Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday with labs on Saturday. We had Wednesday off. Ours was the last freshman class to partake in this schedule since we went from quarters to semesters and lost the Wednesday that was suppose to be used for homework and catching up on various projects that were owed to the professor. And sometimes that is what happened but when the weather turned to spring, Wednesdays turned into a day to go hear a band outside the AMUC or just sitting out on the quad and vegging or spending time in the local waterholes listening to a local band. We toasted out Wonderful Wednesday with Coca Cola and were trying for a world record.

Caroline and Ariel have today off because of meetings with the teachers and the supervisors of the various schools to discuss things. Ariel has her bowling dinner tonight. We found her a lovely dress for the dinner and some nice shoes as well. Caroline is going to go to the gym with us since they have childcare built into the membership. This explains the large number of mothers that use that gym.

I really like our gym. It is truly a mix of ages and body types. There is a rehab center attached to the gym that use the equipment to help people get better. There are some serious gym rats who pump iron with reverence and have the temples of their bodies to show for all their hard work. There are the skinny minis who have aerobicized their bodies to the nth degree. There are a middle aged women who are trying to lose some weight that they fear they will never lose. There are the middle aged men who are trying to get back to fighting weight. And the elderly who are probably exercising to just exercise for the first time in their lives. The nice thing is that all these diverse groups get along at this gym. The gym rats will help one of the middle age women or men lift weight correctly or give them advise about using the machines to gain muscle strength. The elderly are helped by other people in the gym so they can exercise with ease. The rehab trainers will pass on tips to gym members when they see something that they can do to avoid injury. It is a very relaxed gym.

So today I am off to go lift weights and get my heart rate up. It is helping. I don’t feel as tired during the day. My brain feels a little clear. My triceps are back to fighting condition. (Now I have to get my biceps to match). My legs feel better as does my back. I have had fewer incidents of back agony since I started to exercise. It’s nice to feel good about me again.

I am grateful for gyms that cater to a diverse cliental.

That sounds like a really nice gym environment! I have never joined a gym because, I suppose, I always thought that it would be like junior high - with everyone scrutinizing and criticizing everyone else. A friend of mine recently joined a gym back in KS and was reporting the same sort of happiness at the diversity and kindness of the people who attend. In a small way, it kind of restores one's faith in humanity. I keep finding that things I was afraid to try are not as bad as I imagined (and are often not bad at all. Except okra.)

Glad to hear that you are feeling better than before. That's excellent. :)

I don't think I could get myself to a gym in the first place, but I've been exercising a little at home. It helps.

My college had classes Mon/Thurs and Tue/Fri, with Wednesday for labs or double-length classes. So I frequently had Wednesdays off. At least once a semester, I'd clear the day and head downtown to the Library of Congress main reading room, where I would spend a wonderful day reading books I'd never been able to get my hands on before. (Why, yes, I AM a reading geek. ;)

Keep it up -- you're making me start to wish I were still going to my gym!
