Last night on Scrubs the lead character J.D., who has a very healthy fantasy life, added some of the Sesame Street characters to his inner monologue. We had Oscar, Grover and Elmo. I was so hoping for Big Bird at some point but it really wouldn't have fit. Towards the end, J.D. commented on how much we learned/observed about interacting with others from watching Sesame Street and I have to agree with the writer of the episode about what they said. My favorite interaction was Grover probably because it was pure Muppet slapstick.

I have been reading the new book on the creation of Sesame Street and it is very interesting to see how the original concept was created. It is also interesting to see how that concept changed to what we know as Sesame Street today. I am about a third of the way through and enjoying it. It seems to be a case of the right people at the right time creating the perfect storm of children's TV. Any element out of place, and this thing would not have been aired.

We did get some snow last night. It is suppose to change over to sleet and freezing rain before going to all rain. Personally, I would rather it stayed snow. I need to clean up my walk and then get Caroline ready for school this morning. I think I am going to drive her to school and pick up my puppet that I left in the Library the other day when I was helping out there.

Be safe and warm (or cool if it is the summer where you are) today. Hugs your loved ones and tell them that you love them.

I am grateful for the Muppets and the smiles they bring to my face and my daughter's face.

What is the title of the book on Sesame Street that you are reading? Right now, I'm reading Avenue Q, which describes the heavy influence of Sesame Street on its development.

I remember seeing something on TV about the evolution of Sesame Street and how they first tried it without any Muppets. Long story short, Muppets made it work. But I'd like to see if my library has the book you're reading and maybe check it out...

It's called "Street Gang:The complete history of Sesame Street' by Micheal Davis.

I have a couple of friends who have been in Avenue Q and friends of friends. The stories they tell are rather funny.

I absolutely adored Sesame Street when I was a kid. My family bought me the first release of Sesame Street oldies on dvd and I've watched it so many times I may need a new dvd soon. I learned so much from that show, not just ABC's and addition but about sharing and loving one another no matter the race, religion or gender. Being fair, saying please and thank you, giving hugs, even death. It's an amazing show.

I have to add, I detest Elmo. I feel like since they brought him on the show it's declined. I miss the folk singers and short films of kids at play. But this is not my generation's Sesame Street anymore.

I know what you mean, Penny. It's not the Sesame Street that I grew up with either, and I miss, like you said, the folk singers and the kids playing. It's sad. :(

By the time I got up, we had about 2 inches of snow/ice on the ground here, but it had changed to rain. I don't mind snow (up to maybe 4-5 inches), and rain is okay. What I can't stand is ice. 'Wintry mix', feh!

I bought my husband that same book for Valentine's Day and am glad that someone else has been reading it. :)

Speaking of muppets, did you see the Daily Show last week where Jon Steward did a segment with Elmo on the closing of Guantanamo? It was hilarious and made me think of you and your love of puppets.
