So what did you do with your extra second in 2008? Yes, we had a leap second last year.
Right now the roadway in front of our house is a sheet of ice with snow blowing over it just to add to the fun. The temperature is in the low teens but the wind chill is tossing that further down into the negative numbers. I plan to salt my front walk but not for a while. At least we have sun today to help melt this ice.
Last night was very nice. We went as a family to the local bowling alley and participated in the family New Years Eve party. Then Ariel went to a friend's house who was having a New Years Eve party for a bunch of Ariel's friends. We went to our friend's house in the area and had a very quiet New Years Eve. Caroline made it to 11:15 this year before falling asleep. She woke up on the way home briefly so when we got her home, we put her in her warmest pajamas and she fell right back to sleep.
Today is all about staying out of the cold. I have stocked the larder so we are good to go there. There is the Rose Bowl Parade today to watch. And then some college football to watch. I did see LSU hand Ga Tech their heads yesterday evening. I expect great things from LSU's freshman quarterback Jordan Jefferson in the future. He did really well last night and I don't think it was a fluke.
So today I get started on some of the stuff that I thought about last year.
Hope your New Year started out right.
I am grateful for safe places to celebrate New Years.

Date: 2009-01-01 05:24 pm (UTC)Surprisingly little ice here, although I expect the shady spots are bad. The super salted and sanded our walks and the parking lot within an inch of their lives. My car is up to its windows in salt and needs to be taken through the carwash. But not today.

Date: 2009-01-01 08:48 pm (UTC)Used it to PARTAYYYYYYYYYY! First New Year's for ages that I actually went out dancing.
Apparently, the engineers who work on Big Ben held him back for the extra second before he struck midnight.
Happy New Year and a lovely 2009 to you and all the family!
