Build Your Own Muppet Whatnot

FAO Schwartz has a done one better than Build a Bear. Build a Muppet. Really.

The Whatnot is occasionally known as an Anything Muppet but the original name was a Whatnot. You build your own puppet with various puppet parts and in the end you have a very nice 16" working rod puppet.

The website is really cool and has additional information about the cost and what is involved. You can find out more info at the Muppet Whatnot Boutique

And yes, eventually, I would really like one of these or several or just the parts. *grin*

Center for Puppetry Arts Museum is Online

Some of you may remember that I am a form employee of the CPA Museum. We jokingly said my title was "Museum Carpenter" since I was the go to person for getting the temporary exhibits in and out of the museum in an efficient manner. I have lots of fond memories of that collection which I got to know very well when I helped Richard Termine with his photographing of the collection. I learned a lot about photographing art objects from him which has served me well.

Recently the Center for Puppetry Arts has put their entire Museum catalogue on line. Both objects that are in the current exhibit and objects that they have stored and have never been seen in the museum. It represents 91% of the collection. Only items that are on loan and a few that have a no photo clause attached to them are not in the collection.

You can browse the museum here

I have been going through it and looking at things I haven't seen in years. It is a great resource for types of puppets from all over the world.

I am grateful for being able to show others things that I find interesting.

totally borrowing these links and crediting you.

Although if I was going to get a Muppet Whatnot, I'm thinking I'd rather a Puppetmaker40 original. :)

The Muppet Whatnots are cool, but a little out of my usual price range. (Okay, a *lot* out of my usual range.)

Well I can tell you that they are very well made (professional use quality) and the materials are the same that they use at Sesame Street. It is probably the closest I'll ever get to owning an actual Muppet. *grin*

I didn't say they weren't worth the money, I just said they were more than I'm willing to spend at this point.

OMG!! I want one. Granted it's not a puppet from you but that is so cool. I think $90 is so reasonable too!
