A Final Kungaloosh

This evening a place near and dear to my heart is opening its doors for the last time. I have told a number of tales over the years about our time at the Adventurers Club. Tonight we say a final Kungaloosh to a place that has been my touchstone at Disney for 10 years now.
The first time I went to the Adventurers Club that I can remember was with a couple of friends when we were down in Orlando for some convention. We went in and saw one of the shows and then left for some of the other clubs. I remember that I wanted to stay but being part of a group, I had to go with the hive mind. I think I also went there at some point with my brother but that is a rather hazy memory.
One of the first dates I went on with Peter was at Disney World. He kept talking about this club that he wanted to go to after we were done with the parks. We went there and he introduced me to the club and we had a blast. We went back there the next night and any other time we were at Disney World. It became our place to go.
Then on September 4th, 2000 I was the first person to be proposed to by Colonel Critchlow Suchbench on behalf of my boyfriend. Peter talks about that evening in his blog. I have written about that evening too. It was magical. We went back during the Honeymoon and were greeted warmly by the cast as if we were there just the other day.
And that is how it has been for us since. We go to the club and just slip into the atmosphere like a comfortable pair of shoes. We know the shows and the order. We know a bunch of the various in jokes that have become part of the club over time. It is a given that if we are in town then we are at the Adventurers Club.
However that goes away as of tonight. Because, in a rather bonehead move, Disney is closing the Adventurers Club. I will have my memories because now that is all that they are.
I am grateful for the friends I have made because of my adventures at the Club.
