Travel takes it out of you. There is no two ways about it. Even though I was only on the west coast for less than 48 hours, I am still feeling the effects of the plane trips. Humans were not designed to sit in a metal cylinder with minimum oxygen for 5 to 6 hours. My brain is still recovering.

I did get some stuff done yesterday that needed to be done including the front and side lawn mowed so we are at code for the town. I got the recycling out this morning and found a dead squirrel. I think it zapped itself on the power lines but I have called the village since we are suppose to when we find dead wild life that was not hit by a car. There was one case of rabies on Long Island this summer so they are being rather strict about it.

It is a nice day for yard work and our yard needs it. I might have the clippers sharpened before I tackle the big tree but a bunch of the small stuff could get done today. It's that or another part of a room indoors. Or I might just chuck that and build a puppet. I have an idea that is either going to work or not work and I want to see which it is. Actually I have two but can only really get one done before Caroline gets back from school.

It feels like fall this morning and I like it. I function so much better with this sort of weather than I do in the heat.

I am grateful for some stuff that happened yesterday.

I'm still VERY aware of that from my trip...especially the first leg eastward which, due to my taking a redeye, meant that I was up for over a day and a half without any real sleep. I had to keep reminding myself what day it was.

(I remember once in August '01 when I was up for the same amount of time. I wrote "30 hours without sleep. No heavy lifting except for my head." To make matters worse, I got a phone call that rousted me out of bed right after I'd gon to bed to start recovering from that. To make matters MUCH better, the caller was my brother saying he and his wife were having kids. Any call less than that, I would've snarled at the caller. A soliciter would've DIED. Urg.)

On the good side, fall's a good season for me, too. It's no fall yet here in Portland -- we're still in the 80s (we hit 90 earlier thisweek) -- but leaf-changing has started to happen.

I really don't know why I thought I could arrive home from the UK at 6PM and work a full day today. But I did... so *I did*. And now I'm clinging to consciousness until Project Runway.

Jet lag is nasty stuff.

It was cool and grey in Atlanta today...

and I was ecstatic. Fall cannot come soon enough.
