Peter and I went to see Hellboy since it was one of the older films on our list of films we want to see in the theater. Del Torro's stamp is all over this one. A lot of the look reminded me of Pan's Labyrinth and considering the lead character, this was not a bad thing. The movie moved quickly and had a storybook quality about it that was set up from the start with the bedtime story. I loved that story and the use of puppet figures to tell it. So I was a happy camper with the film pretty much from the start. This is not a film for everyone. If you like Hellboy or Ron Perlman, then this is the film for you. If you like Del Torro's body of work, this is a must see. Costumers will get a kick out of the royal court costumes and the market scene.

The issue yesterday got a reply and it was about what I expected. I did not respond in kind because I said my piece and they were so on the defensive I didn't feel like poking them again. I will say that after I spoke up, a number of people came out of the woodwork with about the same thing and the usual peacekeepers in the group, who had been pretty silent, piped in too. All is peaceful in puppetland and we are onto another topic which is what sort of jobs are good for a puppeteer to take in retail to pay the bills.

My schedule for DragonCon is starting to shape up. I know I am doing the puppet demo for the Art Show. I know I have a couple of panels for the YA track. I know I have at least one for the Star Wars track and possibly more. I am doing one thing for the costume track. So my dance card is pretty full which makes me happy. Caroline will be spending the weekend with her grandparents which she is looking forward to. It is a better situation for her I think than the game of pass the Caroline which has happened in previous years. I'll bring pictures since I don't have her with me for those who want to see how big she has gotten. Ariel is all pumped for DragonCon. She is already looking at the schedule but I think she is going to be in the YA track most of the weekend.

For costumers in the UK, there was a judgment passed down on LucasFilms vs. Ainsworth in regards to the copyright infringement case for the stormtrooper costumes. The judgment, which only really effects the UK, and a pretty good layman's version of what it means can be found at Simon Bradshaw's law blog. This does not change anything here in the US but makes some other costumes in the Uk fair game for the UK costumers I think.

I am grateful for Caroline's second loose tooth coming out so conveniently.

any recommendations for awesome things at dragon*con? It's my first d*c, and the biggest con I have gone to by far. My biggest, and first, con was Icon, which I religiously attended from about 14-20 years old. (I always went to see Peter talk at icon. I even got my name in one of the new frontier books because of a CBLDF auction where he took pity on me.)

I am so excited for dragon*con!!!

I'm looking forward to having you back around in the YA track! You're so knowledgeable and have a depth and breadth of experiences that you are a definite asset, and we just like you too. :)
