Or whatever we are calling ourselves these days.

I have been a Doctor Who fan since I was a teenager so close to 30 years now if I am calculating correctly.

And after the end of this season, I am still glad to be a fan.

I am also glad that we have spin-offs of the original show to sustain us between seasons.

Recently many pockets of Doctor Who fandom have been down on RTD for various reasons most of which conflict with each other. (like More Rose vs. No More Rose factions).

Remember without RTD, we would still be telling our friends and children about this TV series that we grew up with and forcing them to watch Classic Who (which is not a bad thing in itself but still).

We have a whole new set of fans of the series and I welcome them to the fandom.

This year I have added another achievement to my list of things I have done in the realm of Who by having a short story published in a Big Finish anthology which makes me now a published Doctor Who author. Feels kind of funny to say still but I'm enjoying it.

I am grateful for all the wonderful things that have happened because I am a Whovian

I grew up watching Classic Who but I have yet to get around to seeing the new stuff. :D I really need to remedy that.

Ditto.

This is why I will never be down on RTD. I might not love all the descisons he makes, but just like I don't hate Joss Whedon for some of the things he did i Buffy... I'm not going to hate Davies! It is called creative liscense!

I definitely agree--I'm not overwhelmed by RTD as a scriptwriter but my hat's totally off to him as the man who brought back Dr. Who. And on the whole, though there are certainly episodes I hate, I've loved the past four seasons in general.

And I probably said this at some point previously, but congrats on the short story!

Hear hear.

I may not be 100% happy with the new series ... but I wasn't 100% happy with the classic series either, or indeed with any TV show I've ever been a fan of. The good times outpace the bad and always have.

Agreed. RTD will always have my thanks for being a fan in the right place at the right time with the right skills to being back Doctor Who. Its not like it was in the old days and that's OK. Can't wait to see where it goes from here!

Also, congrats on the story. I get to live vicariously through you! I think this also reduces my Doctor Who Bacon number or something which is also cool.

I have no gripes with RTD about this season. At least nothing big enough to make me stop watching. I too have been a Who fan for about 27 years and was GIDDY to have my show back.
(I went to conventions in the 80s darn it!!)
I've found something to like, even in the so-called "bad" episodes. I think a lot of people forget what some of the Old School Who eps were like. ::shrugs::

K--I have to get you to sign my copy of Short Trips! Terri & Keith already got their sigs on it. :)

I am very happy about the new Who. For whatever reason, though I begged, I was not allowed to watch original Who when I was a kid, so I was thrilled when a new one started and I could watch it! I really enjoy Torchwood and SJA, and even when there are things in particular episodes that make me go "What? This again?!" or "Nooooo!" I am still a big fan. :)

I met my wife because of Doctor Who. Sadly, though, she drew the line at naming our daughter "Nyssa".

We chose "Shelby" from ST: TNG instead. Go figure. :)

Amen!

I've decided to the New Whovians 'Whooligans'. It seems to fit. Though, I do want to be educated and inducted into the sacred 'classic' fandom. You'll have to help me. :)

Exactly! I just quoted you to some friends. The RTD bashing really gets on my nerves, but I RTD is my kind of fanboy. He makes the decisions I would probably make in his place. I feel pandered too, and I love it. :)

Agreed. I am loving this Doctor Who revival, and I am grateful to RTD for bringing this beloved show back.

I've always loved Uncle Harlan's comment on the show: Star Wars is adolescent nonsense; Close Encounters is obscurantist drivel; Star Trek can turn your brains to purée of bat guano; and the greatest science fiction series of all time is Doctor Who! And I'll take you all on, one-by-one or all in a bunch to back it up!

What's interesting for me with that quote is that it's from when Next Gen was on the air, I believe, and before B5, the new Battlestar, Farscape, Firefly and other "recent" genre shows. I wonder if he would revise that statement or he thinks it still holds true.
