Marching Along We're Adventures
Singing the song of Adventuring
Up or Down
North, South, East or West
An Adventure's life is Best
-The Adventure's Club Theme Song

Peter introduced me to the Adventure's Club at Disney World on Pleasure Island on one of our first "official" dates. We spent the entire evening at the club watching the various shows that make up the story line. We also spent the next night there doing the same thing. It became our place to go hang out after the parks were closed. We got to know the characters and the shows pretty well.

The Adventurers Club handshake

Take your right hand and place it horizontal to your solar plexus, fingers splayed. Give a few fishy waves. Lift your hand up and take a pretend drink from an invisible glass in your hand. Raise your hand to the heavens and yell out "Kungaloosh!"

Peter and I have both talked about our engagement at the club. We were the first people to get officially engaged with the help of the cast of the Adventure's club. Peter got in touch with Disney when he knew we were all going on a family trip down there. He asked about the various engagement packages they have like Prince Charming and Cinderella helping with popping the question at King Stephen's castle dinner. We had seen this happen once when Peter and I went out to dinner. He asked them if they had one at the Adventure's club. At the time they didn't but they put Peter in touch with the manager of the club and they arranged it for us.

September 4th 2000, I walk into the club and we are greeted by a guy in a grass skirt. Peter asked him where something was and the guy said to Peter, "Let me show you where that it." I wandered in to the Main Salon and got my usual Kungaloosh (which is an amazing frozen drink) and sat down. Peter rejoined us and we went into the Library for the show. It was coming out of that that the Colonel tagged me and I though that I had just been picked on for being tall. Nope, shortly after that I found myself engaged to Peter. We had a lot of fun that night and the club became our special place.

The Adventurers Club creed

We climb the highest mountains, just to get a better view
We plumb the deepest oceans, because we're daring through and through
We cross the scorching desert, martini in our hand
We ski the polar icecaps, in tuxedo looking grand
We are reckless, brave and loyal
And valiant to the end
If you come in here a stranger
You will exit as a friend
(give the club salute!) KUNGALOOSH!

Since then we have gone back and been greeted by name by various cast members which usually has the rest of the room looking at us with that lovely "and you are?" look. We went there when we were on our Honeymoon and were teased rather good naturedly as to why we were at the club since we were on our Honeymoon (wink wink nudge nudge). We went when I was pregnant with Caroline which lead to another set of jokes. Caroline's first time at Disney included the Adventure's Club and she has been quite a few times since. We have made some good friends because of the club. We have had some adventures that we would not have had if not for the club.

For us a trip to Disney is just not a trip to Disney without visiting the Adventure's Club. However that might be ending soon as the last night of the club is slated for September 27th, 2008. Disney is doing away with all the clubs in the area for a number of reasons that makes sense to corporate but no sense to us.

I am stunned and saddened at the thought of losing the one place at Disney that is my must go. There is an online petition that someone started but I am trying to find a place we can send paper letters to so we can save this club. We need to save the Adventure's Club. There is nothing like it nor will there be anything like it in the future. More on this when I have information.

I am grateful for all my experiences at The Adventure's Club.

Aw, no! That sucks! I went there with Peter and John and a few others when we were all out for John's birthday years back--it was the premiere of Spider-Man and we went to that at Universal and then went to the Adventurers Club that night. We had a blast. I'd hate to see that place go.

I never get tired of this story and I'm so sorry that a piece of your past is being taken.

I signed the petition. It would be an absolute shame to lose something so uniquely, quirkily Disney.

I never really got the Adventure Club when I went a few years ago... I think I kept waiting for some kind of punch that never came. Hmm.

I signed the petition though anyway, because really, at Pleasure Island there's not enough original entertainment. The Adventure's Club is really the only non-dance club available.

*fondly remembers*
"When I was a lad, I had
a monkey, naughty as can be...
and when he'd misbehave,
I'd Spank the Monkey!
Spank the monkey!"

KUNGALOOSH!!!
