If you read this, if your eyes are passing over this right now, even if we don't speak often, please post a comment with a memory of you and me. It can be anything you want -- good or bad. When you're finished, post this little paragraph on your blog and be surprised (or mortified) about what people remember about you.

You were still working at Oxford comics, and I was in for my monthly pickup, and we were chatting. You told me on the hush hush that you were dating Peter, and you just looked so happy and it made me smile.

Ah yeah. When it was a secret over 10 years ago (almost 11).

A lot has happened since then.

A lot has. And most of it was good. :)

I'll go with the most recent: you, me, and Peter at that excellent brewpub having dinner before I saw Arlo Guthrie. It was fun to just sit and hang out in a non-convention atmosphere....

We need to do that more. Meeting at conventions is restrictive in many ways.

Not just a single memory, but a collective: Walking home from Droodles, taking the shortcut through Emory and stopping for ice-cream in the Village. What was the name of that place? It was wonderful. I was so sad when it burned down.

From: [identity profile] puppetmaker40.livejournal.com
The owner's name was Nina. I can't remember the name of the place but it was great.

The sad thing that Carrie found out later was that the fire insurance on the business went into effect two days AFTER the fire. Nina lost everything.

I found pictures I took for a fourth grade project of both those stores and what Lenox looked like before it upgraded when I was doing a comparison between indoor malls and strip shops.

I didn't know that about the insurance. That hurts.

The aftermath of the fire was oddly beautiful, with the thick layer of ice from the firehoses coating the ruins. But the Village has never been the same since.

I don't think so this year.

We are so booked most of July and the latter half of August that we aren't looking to go any where else this summer.

The age of husktering....

From: [identity profile] docwhoopee.livejournal.com
popped into mind for some reason.....a year or two ('85 to '86?) going to cons and paying our way by sitting at our dealers table selling buttons, a couple of t-shirt designs lifted from the Edison Carter show, and my early plexiglass blade work. We covered each other for the dealers room hours (thank you for covering the morning shifts as I recovered from my hangover) and probably sat together for two hours each convention. But it was one of those proofs of convention attendance theory - if you stayed in one place long enough, you would meet everyone at the convention.

I was telling Peter about that the other day. I had forgotten about the t-shirts that we made with the screen printing screen.

I agree, it was the best way to see everyone.

There should be one -- there really should. Considering I've met your husband, even got an autograph from him once, and all the conventions I've been to throughout middle America (including numerous GenCons). But then, would you remember me either? I'm not that spectacular (or outspoken like my companion, the_dark_snack).

So I hope we have met in real life, and that I was polite.

The only mid-west show I think we have gone to together was MadCon when Harlan and Neil were there. There might have been another.

GenCon I was at when Del Rey had a booth there and I was one of the booth babes.

Your wedding. Everything about it - the little bus you sent around to ferry people to and from the hotels, the ceremony and reception, the nice get together your parents had at their house.... everything.

From: [identity profile] puppetmaker40.livejournal.com
I was only on the bus once going from my parents house to the hotel. It was a nice bus.

My only regret is that I was not at the party the night before but I was so nervous it is probably better I was not *grin*

Well, I have no memory of being with you in person but I do recall a few evenings spent in a favorite chatroom. Sadly I guess that old chatroom has gone to that graveyard where all old technologies reside. I miss you AND most of the 'regulars' from there on the rare occasion when I have something insightful I wish to share.

A lot of those chat rooms were so much simpler to operate and didn't cause my computer to overheat.

I miss those.

I remember how shocked I was when I realized just who you are. I knew of you, knew your husband, had seen you at cons and so on, and realizing that I *do* actually know someone "famous" was just a heck of a mind-slap. (I always tease that I am not important enough to know anyone famous or infamous....)

I've never had the pleasure of meeting you in person, but I do remember finding your blog, which lead me to your El-Jay. I was flattered that you friended me, and I've enjoyed being privileged enough to get a glimpse into your life, as well as appreciative of when you comment on mine.

I've met Peter many times at Dragon*Con, and now I'm hoping that I get a chance to run into you as well!

The first time I met you was in the airport at the gate for a plane that was heading to Milwaukee, I think. I know it was going to GenCon, I think that it was long enough ago to be Milwaukee bound. I just remember thinking "Here comes someone who seems to know us, but I don't know her" and then [livejournal.com profile] gryphonrose introduced us, and I thought you were very nice, and i figured you thought I was really odd because I hadn't slept in a couple of days and was rather spaced-out.

So that's where we met. I knew that there had to be a time before I ran into you again later.

That was one of those Del Rey trips. Where they had the really good cookies on the plane.

I don't have an 'in person' memory, obviously. But I remember being drawn into your Idol entries by your frank writing style and your obvious fondness for your family. And then when I started reading your journal, I appreciated those qualities even more -- they weren't just a cloak you put on for Idol. Not to mention that your world (puppetry, writing, cons, etc.) seems like such a grand adventure at times. :)

Why thank you very much.

My journaling has always been what you see is what you get. I don't try to couch things or fancy them up. My long time friends will tell you that that is pretty much how I have always been.

And yeah it is a roller coaster of a life at times but I enjoy it *grin*

OMG...where do I begin? I think at the beginning, when you came to rescue our little MRAP production (was it "Night at the Olde Phoenix"?) I remember thinking, "OOooooo, a professional." And you certainly proved me right. You were amazing and whipped us into shape.

I also have a fond remembrance of my one (and only, I think) visit to your parents' wonderful house near Emory. What a cool, fascinating place that is.

And always, I think of your energy, talent and creativity. You still wow me. :-)

(Oh yeah...and a big thank you for letting me deliver your Doc5 puppet to Peter Davison. That still ranks as one of my all time best convention memories. ;-)

I remember threating the group that if they turned away from the audience and talked up stageI was going to shoot them repeatedly.

Did I tell you that Mr. Davison and I had a very nice talk about that puppet at DragonCon a year or two ago. He said he still had it on his mantle at home.
