I am a fan of science fiction. I love reading about the possibilities of the future. Most of my favorite TV shows have either science fiction or fantastical elements in them. So I want to know where the frack is my flying car? I mean we were suppose to have them by now according to the stories that I read that were written by in the 1940s and 1950s. Heck you can go as far back as the early pulps to see lots of examples of these mysterious items.

No flying car? How about a teleporter? They work by the time of the original Star Trek series. I thought it was a brilliant idea on Roddenberry's part. It cut the cost of having to take a ship down to the planet or whatever every week. My favorite version was the one in Blake's 7. But the ability to get from here to there in a blink of an eye. Wow what a time saver and it has been put to good use in Doctor Who, Buck Rodger, Charmed and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy just to name a few.

Speaking of Doctor Who, where is my sonic screwdriver? I mean that thing makes a swiss army knife look like a bleeding rock. And we have been told that things are better when they are sonic right? I also want a TARDIS or some other means of time travel like one of those pocketwatches that always seem to turn out to be time travel objects. I'll even take Captain Jack's time hopper even if I would want to hurl each time I used it. It would be worth it. Time travel has been an obsession of mine. What would I do if I had all the time in the world to play with?

How about a ray gun? Well that one is closer to reality than is really comfortable. There are various items in the pipeline that are using various means of radiations to cause harm or destroy things. But still they are really cool. Or jetpacks? There are a number of prototypes that are being worked on as we speak.

Of course a lot of gadgets we have now would seem like science fiction to the writers of those early pulp stories. Take the Internet. The idea of personal computers all linked were used in some stories but I think they would be amazed at the global scope of it. Or cell phones. Or digital picture taking.Or DVDs. Or CDs. Or iPods. Or digital watches which I still think are a pretty neat idea.

Personally I think eventually we will have flying cars and jet packs. Probably not in my lifetime but possibly in my daughter's. Whatever gadgets the future brings, I'll probably want them. I am currently lusting after the iPhone.

Mac has all of the future I need. :) I love my iPod shuffle. 240 hour capacity and teeny tiny! I could use the teleporter, though.

I think that talking self driving cars should be sold to the sight impaired and the elderly before the rest of the population giving them the mobility that the rest of us enjoy.

I don't know if I do. I think I would stick to the ground because the skies would be so crowded.

Hello there. I'm Liza. Your (extremely charming) husband told me your LJ handle at a party in my mother's house this evening. My friend [livejournal.com profile] speedlime is the radio lady who spoke with you on the phone!

So, er... is it OK if I friend you?

Fantastic! Friended, hurrah.

I'm looking forward to reading your journal. Among other things, I hope you will eventually disclose where my flying car has got to. Coulda sworn I parked it around here somewhere...

It will be fascinating to see what gadgets the future brings.

I look at my husband's grandma, born in 1931, and wonder what she thinks of modern technology considering she didn't even have television as a child!!

...AND WHY AM I NOT LIVING ON THE FREAKING MOON?!

Also, digital watches are awesome because I can wear them into the MRI room. I go through a watch a year, but still. It's better than them just outright breaking.
