puppetmaker: (Peter David and Me)

There is a discussion about the latest Spiderman Storyline over on Peter's Blog (www.peterdavid.net) which due to content is rather heated (and I am not going to put a spoiler here but will allow that there might be such discussion in the comment section so be forewarned). My problem is that I keep seeing "Peter" and it takes a moment for my mind to process that they are talking about Peter Parker not Peter David. Personally, I know all about it and am steering clear of it so don't ask my opinion about it.

We might be going to New York ComicCon this year for reasons that will become clear later. We had a lot of fun last year and met a number of really nice people.

I have to get cracking on the costumes for Farpoint. I want to have them done by the beginning of February (Yeah, I can dream). Today is all about those darn dollies that are sitting on my sewing table and laughing at me. Then I have a couple of puppets I need to knock out.

I have a possibility to present a puppet show I have been knocking around in my head. I am now debating what I should do. I would have to have the proposal and a chunk of the show done before March. Just something to think about at this point. It might even work for that piece that Neil thought would make a good puppet show eons ago. The only stipulation to this show is that it has to be done in toy theater form.

Yesterday when I woke up I thought my allergies were kicking up but now I think I am looking at a head cold since this feels more like a head cold especially in the throat. I have also had the darn tickle in the back of my throat which has been causing lots of coughing. I have been sipping on water to try to keep from coughing.

Now I just need to get some motivation going so I can work on stuff. I think I have been spending entirely too much time attached to the Internet recently. But I love the Internet and all the cool things on it. I know what I did before the Internet came along for entertainment and maybe I should see if I can still survive without it. So I am going to go off the grid once a month on the 16th of the month this year. From Sunrise to Sunset to start with and then eventually 24 hour periods. This includes not using my cell phone and not watching TV (but I can tape something to watch later if needed).

There are other things on my 101 list that I need to get started on so I can complete them in a timely fashion. Rather than a Home Make-Over, it is a Me Make-over to try to break some of the bad habits I have had off and on for years.

I am grateful for the nifty stuff that the postman brings.

I forgot to mention this prior to now but Peter was the answer to one of our trivia questions at the Whoosier Christmas party. I got the answer correct because I had met him. It was funny but all of the questions I got right during that round were about people that I had met.

Just thought I'd mention it.

That is funny. What was the question?

I don't remember the exact question (it was long and complex) but it boiled down to who wrote the Spiderman issue dealing with AIDS.

The sad thing of it is I've been online less lately, and still can't tell you where the rest of my time is going.

A lot of it devolves to me working midshifts, 11-8 or 12-9 most days. I need to be more conscientious about getting out of bed early, since I know my day is eaten up by such awkward hours.

Plans to get either a desktop or a game system to be able to enjoy Batman Lego: The Video Game this fall are not likely to improve my time to do other things, n'est-ce pas?

I got a solitaire game for mine and between that and Majong I am screwed for time wasters.

I read his interview in Wizard magazine the other night. We might come up for NYCC too.. Not sure yet though, but I'd like too.

It is large and a blast. It is later this year so that you won't freeze trying to get into the Javiz (sp?) center. Tell me if you are coming and we can hook-up at the convention.

Heh. I was actually having the same problem.

I hope you find your motivation! I know mine's around here somewhere...

Try under the sofa. I think I found mine there after I saw the cats kick it around for a bit *grin*

My problem is that they keep talking about Peter's marriage and what happened and I have to make the translation that they are NOT talking about the two of us since we are pretty solid and I am alive (or so I am told)

Oh! Eek! Yeah, I can definitely see some distress coming from that. But as far as I know you've never even met Mephisto, and to the best of my knowledge, Peter isn't moonlighting as a superhero. (Unless you have something to tell us?) So I think you're safe. *smile*

you know I have that EXACT same problem. When people are talking about the comci book Lyndon... wait, what do you mean, there's NOT a comic book character with my name?? WHY NOT?? *Sulk*

*is ashamed to admit I haven't a clue what's going on in comic-dom at the moment. What happened? where can I find out what's the deal? Is JMS in trouble again? :)

JMS is not in trouble but he did stick his foot in it (again) which might not have been the brightest thing to do during a writers strike.

The basics are that they did a recon on Peter and MJ that the fans are screaming about a lot. Try the Newsarama Board (http://www.newsarama.com/) and look at the Marvel board and the reviews board.

Lyndon.....hmmmmm.....Might have to use that name....*grin*

Ok I've caught up a bit. Here's my thoughts on the subject (feel free to pass them on to "Peter" (Whichever Peter you think would like to hear them)

1 - The storyline is valid. It's not one whose outcome I like, but until I read the issues, I'm not going to go into the criticism part. I do like the MJ/Peter (Parker) marriage though. I like my characters to develop. Peter should grow up and leave home. Dick Grayson SHOULD have become Nightwing etc etc (The only part the irks me about comics is how death has cheapened over the years. If a hero dies now, surely the first thoughts through another hero or relatives mind isn't "Oh god, he's gone" it's "Well, so and so came back from the dead....." Nothing is "final" anymore. ) It seems more and more to me that defining moments in a hero's path are being erased. Captain America loses Bucky in the war, but Bucky is alive again.. Jason Todd dies, turning Batman into a darker character, but guess what?

There are certain characters whose path ends, and their ending should be preserved. Hal Jordan gave his life to save the universe after nearly destroying it himself, but a couple of years later.. Hal's alive, and back in Green & Grey.

ah, enough whining, Just please tell Peter this, I will hunt down ANYONE that suggests that Jean DeWolff should come back to life. He can pass that on to Joe Q if he wants :)

Though I have to say I kind of like the fact that the whole resurrection pandemic has become uberplot. DC has Superwhiner-Prime punching the timestream and Marvel has Wanda warping reality with her insanity. I like that it's a quantifiable phenomenon.

I was amused how Siryn refused to believe her father was really dead 'cause heroes are coming back all the time. (Come to think of it, Peter wrote that!)

Just to weigh in on the whole Peter (Parker)/MJ thing, I, too like my characters to develop. I like that DC has 3 (and a half) generations of heroes, and if one dies, another steps up to take his place. At least in theory. I'm not an old-school Spider-Man fan. I always found him too depressing. I liked reading Spidey when he was living in the Avengers tower and not whining. I won't be reading him now.

Lets see, the summary I'm getting from various fandom sites is:

"I can't believe they did this to Spider-Man, this is the most ridiculous thing ever. Peter Parker is so out of character in the most recent story, and the decision he makes doesn't make any sense at all. I'm glad I stopped reading back when (story line or creative team changed) happened so that I didn't have to actually read this story, just the spoilers. I suggest that we boycot all of the Spider titles until (thing I don't like) gets changed."

Oh, wait. I think applies to every story, not just this one.

It looks likely that we'll be at NY ComicCon this year. Hope to see you there!

If you go to NYCC you better let me know how we can meet up before hand. I'll hopefully be able to get my friend/editor who I've done freelance for to mock up press credentials for me. (If not I'll have the cash for tickets, but god damn, that means those lines.....)

I want to meet YOU. I've already met Peter and I think most of your step-children. There's two of them, right? Both girls?

Hey, I might do that for my 40th, and I'd love to meet you.

Lemme think on this.

For some reason, I thought this was next month in line w/ my 40th. It is not.

Oops.
