LJ Idol Introduction
Oct. 29th, 2007 10:27 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
I decided to do this because I met so many wonderful people through it when Popfiend did it along with a number of other people I knew on Live Journal. The first topic given was to do an introduction of oneself but it is an open topic so there is very little structure given to this.
I thought how I could introduce myself to those reading along and playing at home and a number of ways came popped into my brain. I put each behind a cut because this one could get a little long and I have some friends still on dial-up.
So I could introduce myself with my bio I send out to various science fiction conventions which have invited me to be a guest at them
Kathleen O’Shea David started working with puppets when she was 2 and over 40 years later she is still "wiggling dolls" for fun and profit. Along the way she picked up a few more skills and careers. She has done just about everything from cancer research to rock and roll. Some of her favorite jobs have been in puppetry, theater and publishing. With her husband Peter David, she adapted the first four issues of the Japanese Manga "Negima". She is a book editor, the owner of No String Attached (Custom Puppets, Masks, and Dolls), and mother to Caroline David. Her costumes have won awards at various science fiction conventions both for performance and workmanship. Her puppets are in collections all over the world. Current projects include a puppet show based on two short stories by Neil Gaiman, making her Fairy Grandmother dolls, finishing up her novel, and creating the other puppets that keep running round her head screaming, "Make me real!"

Or I can just tell you a little about myself right here.
I have had a journal for over three years now and each year has been a learning experience for me which I have recorded here. I started the journal so that my family and friends could keep up with me but soon it expanded to people who I have never met and a record for my daughter to read later if she wants to. I have quite a record of her life in here.
The basics of Me
I'm 44 years old. I am married to Peter David (writer of stuff) and have been for 5 years now. I have one daughter Caroline and three stepdaughters Shana, Gwen, and Ariel. Ariel lives with us. We have full custody of her. Shana is a teacher in Florida and Gwen is working on her master's degree in Washington DC.
I weight about 40 pounds more than I want to but I am working on that. I have brown hair and blue eyes. I'm 5'11". I have three siblings and both of my parents are alive.
I went to elementary school in Boston (JFK Elementary) and Atlanta(Fernbank).
I went to High School in Atlanta (Druid Hills).
I went to college in Atlanta (Emory University)
I went to grad school in New Haven (Yale School o' Drama)
The Creative Me
I have been working with puppets since I was two according to my mother. I have been building them since I was a teenager and have gotten pretty good at it. I belong to a number of puppetry groups including Puppeteers of America. Puppetry is very important to me. I'm a big Henson fan and love all things muppet. I could list a lot of other puppeteers here that have influenced me but I think your eyes would glaze over.
I started making dolls because of the Puppets and found that I was good at that too. The mask work I have done came out of my theater background.
I am a card-carrying member of Actor's Equity Association. I've been a stage manager for over 20 years of my life. I worked in a lot of theaters up and down the East Coast and most of the theaters in Atlanta that have an AEA contract.
I am a writer. I have a number of publishing credits to my name including a Star Trek game and the first four issues of Negima. I have a short story in a Doctor Who anthology which will be published next year.
I make ATC and ATDs for swaps.
The Family Me
Peter and I have been together for 10 years this December. We have been married 5 and have a four year-old daughter who is the light of my life.
We live on Long Island in a nice town and a good neighborhood.
I spend a lot of my time with my daughter. Next year she will be in kindergarten but now she is at home and being raised by both my husband and myself since we both work out of the house. She is a clever little girl who is interesting in the world and how it works.
We have three cats Stalin, Millie and Vanillie (I had no part in naming them).
We have a good life and fun friends. We are heavily involved with the science fiction and fantasy community as well as the comic book community. You can read Peter's bio on his site Peter David or look him up in Wikipedia.
I have a feeling I am going to be talking about myself and my thoughts a lot more over the next couple of weeks.
I am putting a link to this in the LJ Idol community
And I always end my entries with something I am grateful for. I started this years ago and I do it to remind myself of the things I have in my life.
I am grateful I have a chance to try for the LJ Idol.

Date: 2007-11-01 01:55 am (UTC)I've only had the pleasure of meeting him and one of your stepdaughters and that was at least 2-3 years ago. Well, actually I had met Peter long before that, but this was the first time where he was just hanging out, not being a guest (it was at the Washington Square Book Fair).
Puppet maker huh? You've seriously got me piqued and I have to add you on many of your merits.
