I'll do a new Who Review probably tomorrow but they CUT one of my favorite scenes in the whole episode.

I found it on Youtube of course

See the insanity that is John Simm....

I didn't see it, but [livejournal.com profile] terri_osborne informs me that they cut a much more important scene toward the end....

(I suspect that scene was cut for licensing reasons.)

They cut the scene with Martha's Mum and the gun and the Doctor talking her down from killing the Master.

That's the scene I'm talking about. The scene you linked to wasn't of critical plot import -- the scene with Martha's mum very much was.

I'm not sure I understand what cutting that scene has to do with licensing. Could you explain?

They may not have had the music rights to "I can't Decide" in the US.

Or, wait. Did you mean that they cut the first scene because they couldn't license the music rights? And the second scene they just cut for commercials?

They'd better keep everything on the DVDs, that's all I have to say.

Yeah, I meant the scene with the music may have been cut for licensing purposes.

I haven't watched it yet, but I am devastated hearing this. That was seriously one of the BEST PARTS. Ugh. Just like last week I was annoyed and the only cut the bit where Jack says "You too huh?" when Martha was all woobie about crushin on the Doctor. Oh so lame.

It added nothing to the plot, didn't advance the story. It's good theater and it showed the Master's insanity, but other than that, it had no intrinsic value. SOMETHING had to go to make room for all the commercials (AFAIK we have about 2 or 3 minutes more commercials than Brit telly). So out it went.

(I thought Brit telly didn't have commercials.)

The scene sets up what has happened in that year. It sets up the insanity of the Master's world. One can imagine that exact scene happening every day for the past year. (I'm going from memory here. I haven't actually seen the episode in months.) But yeah, you're right, something had to go. *sigh*
