Last night Caroline came to me because her hand hurt. It looked like she jammed her finger and I had her dip it in cool water and gave her some pain meds. This morning her whole left hand is swollen and I can now see a puncture wound just below the lower joint of her finger. So this morning is going to be about a visit to the Doctor to find out what we need to do for her.

More as I know more.

I am grateful that Caroline showed me her hand last night so I have a better idea when it happened.Bite

Thank you. She is doing fine now. She is a pretty tough kid.

If it's swollen, it sounds like she's either having an allergic reaction to whatever bit/stung her or it's poisonous. Hope she's all right - do keep us posted.

She is doing fine. The Benadryl had taken her to nappy land but I think she needed the nap a lot.

It does look like a spider bite.

She's doing fine now. She is being a trooper about not scratching at it.

I'm glad she showed you, too. Adara had a spider bite on her hand when she was two, and the hand swelled way up. It turned out to not be serious - just that a hand swells more when bitten because there is less space for it to dissipate...but it does get uncomfortable, and is best to have inspected, of course! Hope all is well and she feels better soon!

Same thing here apparently. I gave her some Benadryl which put her out for a long nap but I think she needed it. We cleaned up her toy areas and checked for spiders living in the corners. I think I got all the stray webs out of here.

Poor Caroline. I hope it's better soon.

Has she ever been stung by a bee? That sounds like the allergic reaction I had when I was stung on one finger. (The first sting never triggers an allergic reaction, only second and subsequent.)

We are going with spider because when the bite area is magnified you can see two puncture wounds but they are both small.

Bee stings are going to be a crap shoot for her. I am not allergic but Peter is highly.

She's doing much better. So am I having a better idea what I can do for her. I'm just kicking myself for not realizing what happened last night.

Don't kick yourself. I'm so glad she's doing better. I should have read further before commenting. :)

Caroline says thank you for the booboo kiss. I didn't know my kid's hand could swell up that much.

Aww, poor Caroline!

It sounds like a spider or some other insect bite, and it also seems that she is allergic to such bites.

Time to keep Children's Benadryl in the house (if you don't already). It'll knock her out (as in zzzzzzzzzzzzz), but it'll do great things for knocking out the allergic reaction too. The cream works well for knocking out the localized itch, but nothing beats regular oral Benadryl for taking care of something that's gone systemic.

Please give her a big ol' smooshy hug for me, and here's hoping she feels better. Hugs to you too.
