Home Again Home Again

Or the rest of the vacation story.
But first I am pretty technically adept. I can work my way through software and hardware problems. In fact after rolling out a new system at Random House I became the on floor person that tech would send people to for a possible quick fix. We got back last night and I hooked up my computer and turned on my airport card. Nada. I put it down to network problems. I got up this morning and still nothing but it did tell me to call Verizon (our DSL provider). Something went screwy with the password so it was reset and then I could get the ethernet to work and had access to the Internet. However our wireless router was dead in the water because I had to change all the passwords. I went online and figured out how to connect to the router so I could reset and lock the password. Which I then did and am now about to use my airport card to talk to my DSL line. Not a big deal for most of you I am sure but I am quite chuffed about it.
Saturday we got up early and finished up our packing. Caroline slept in which made my life a bit easier. When she got up she reminded us that we promised her Grandma cinnamon rolls which we gave to her with a big glass of milk. I packed up the car and we were off to Orlando again.
Our flight was at 6:00pm so we had some to kill and we figured that Sea World would be a good place to do it since Caroline is so animal crazy. One of those good idea/bad idea mixes. She did have a lot of fun. She watched the dolphins swim underwater for over half an hour which was nice because it was out of the sun. She helped me feed the seals and sea lions. She watched the penguins for quite a while. The orcas were not cooperating so she didn't see them in their underwater habitat. We had a nice lunch in air conditioned comfort. It was getting from one place to another that was killer. It was hot and humid so it felt like the air was pushing against up. I was the only one to get sunburn in the group. After we were done with the penguins, Ariel and I looked at the sky where we saw very dark clouds rolling in. Ariel suggested strongly that we go to the airport. I agreed that even if we were really early it still would not be a bad thing.
Good thing we did too since shortly after we started driving the heavens opened up and we were hit with a deluge of water. I had to stop driving for a while to let the storm pass a bit before continuing onto the airport. We got there finally and I off loaded the car while Caroline took a short nap. We then processed to check-in at the ticket counter and this time I had no problem what so ever. Fingers crosses that this continues.
We were at the airport about 3 hours before our flight was to leave. Fortunately the Orlando airport had plenty to do and look at. We killed some time in the atrium and then went through security which took a bit of time. We just avoided what looked to be a fist fight about breaking in line and the security agent's accent (which was Russian to my ear not Hispanic) that one man took an intense dislike to and told her so at the top of his lungs including his rant on people speaking English properly so that anyone could understand them. The word he got hung up on was "right" as in she was telling everyone to move to the right for quicker access to the gates once your ticket was checked. I could understand what she was saying but then I have always had an ear for that sort of thing.
We were still at the gate an hour and 1/2 before our flight only to find out that our flight was delayed until 6:30 due to weather between Chicago (where the plane was coming from) and Orlando. Since we had the stroller and Caroline, we were able to pre-board so I had the girls settled in by the time the plane left the gate only to sit on the tarmac due to weather conditions north of Orlando. We got home by 10:00 only one and half later than our original arrival which these days of air travel isn't bad at all.
I got Caroline to go to bed about 11:00 and I shortly followed her to bed. This morning I got the DSL sorted out and the children bagels for breakfast. Today I plan to go food shopping and do some laundry since our clothes got soaked while sitting on the tarmac in Orlando in the rain. I might even sort through some photos for the website.
Overall it was a very nice vacation and I do feel like I did get some downtime to stop and think about stuff. Next I start on stuff for DragonCon and getting ready to see the Police August 5th. The weekend after that is a Muppet festival at Huntington Arts Center then we are off to Cape Cod for the writer's conference. We get back from that in time to pack up from DragonCon so my time is much more limited than I think.
I am grateful for the downtime I did get this past week.
