And whining about it. Jeez Louise, I swear if they told you that Alan Rickman was coming on to be the companion, you would find a reason to not like it. Last year after they announced Martha Jones, the bitchfest was amazing and she is a GREAT companion and this season has some of the best episodes yet. Give these people a chance. I can remember the K-9 kurfluffel way back when and he is now considered one of the most beloved of companions. Give them a chance and I bet they will surprise you!
Warning to those who have not seen the 3rd season and have avoided spoilers for the fourth, I am allowing for spoilers in the comments.

Date: 2007-07-04 05:33 pm (UTC)I had it happen in my own living room last night!
Well, the young lady in question, my semi-daughter, is still speaking to me, but the incident caused a lot of temporary friction.
We're currently watching the classic WHO with Crystal and are almost at the end of Tom Baker's run. Michael and I haven't seen any Tennant and only a few Ecclestons... we're trying to get Crystal up to speed so we can all watch it together.
The video for "Warrior's Gate" had a "commercial" for the then-new DOCTOR WHO CD-ROM computer game [back in 1997], with Anthony Ainley's Master doing the voice-over. Within two minutes, Crystal was yelling "Loser!" at the screen. I then had to "break it gently" to her that she'd have to get used to this fellow she was deriding, becaause he was going to be around a while. The NEXT GEN comparison came up as a conversational springboard which did much to cool tempers [I've been very, very strung out and touchy lately, and her reaction REALLY hit a nerve].
My personal opinion is that Ainley did a great job with what he was given; he knew that comparisons to Delgado were unavoidable, but he carried on like a trouper and eventually managed to put his own spin on it. I'll still always love Roger best, but I give Anthony props for his effort.
I'm open-minded enough to give each new character in any fandom a chance... it takes a little longer for me to warm up to some, like Jool in FARSCAPE, but I get there eventually.
So Rose into Martha into Donna? I'll watch and wait.
