Peter and I went to the movies yesterday and finally saw FF2. Over all I thought it was a better movie that the first one. It didn't suffer from villain overload that Spidey 3 had. It had the right amount of scum and villainy. The actors seemed much more comfortable with the characters this time around. The special effects supported rather than overwhelming the story. There was a plot with a beginning, a middle and an end. There was tons of little references to classic Fantastic Four comics and scenes up to and including one with Stan "the Man" Lee. And the Surfer totally rocked.

In the land of costuming, I got some difficult sewing done without killing my machine or my family. Why do some fabrics fight you all the way when you are trying to shape them? Also it was one of those looooong stitched where you have to rethread the bobbin because you run out of thread. Also I got some bad thread. This really irritated me because I spent the extra money to get a good thread (coats) and it kept snagging and breaking. Now the snags were on the thread itself which showed lots of imperfections when I was doing some hand sewing after I finished one of the stitched of Heck.

Today I plan to do more sewing and more cutting of fabric. If I can get two more pieces to the hand sewing stage I will be happy. I do need to sit down and write out what I have left to do so I can figure out my attack plan. My goal is to get every thing done by the end of next week so I have a few days to breath before the convention starts.

I am grateful for getting those nasty stitches done with my fingers mostly intact.

I was completely unaware that the scene with Stan Lee was canon! I'm glad someone in [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily posted the original.

I had forgotten it until I saw the scene on the movie screen and then I couldn't stop laughing. It was just about the perfect cameo I have seen with Stan.

That was one of my favorite scenes in the movie. I was laughing so hard! When I looked around the theater, though, I saw I was the only one in the theater laughing.

And the recipient of some fairly bizarre looks.

Bad thread will mess you up more than just about anything. I tend to stick to Guterman thread whenever possible, as I've had consistent good luck with it.

Do you know, by any chance, if Doug Jones did the voice as well as the body of the Surfer? He is amazing, but half the time he's either silent or overdubbed.

I don't recall who, but the credits listed two people doing the Surfer, one for the voice and one for the body actor (ala Darth Vader).

Kath, I enjoyed the movie also, but I thought the ending was a trifle anti-climactic. I would have done with a little less in the middle to make the scene with Galactus at the end more dramatic. I thought he was a bit of a pushover, all things considered.

Funny that. Peter and I had the same dicussion on the way back from the film. My thoughts on the matter is that the Surfer says "It will be the end to both of us." therefor until he was willing to sacrifice himself for a planet, Galactus was safe.

Yeah, I was wondering when Reed was going to have a chance to whip out the "Ultimate Nullifier" on Galactus. And where was the Watcher?

Still, I think it and Ghost Rider were two "fun" movies, (which is more than I can say about X3) and I enjoyed them more than Spidey 3.

Do you get the feeling the Spiderman series is going the way of the Batman series? (First movie - 1 villian, Second movie - 2 villians, 3rd movie - 3 villians, etc.)

The voice was that of Laurence Fishburne (aka Morpheus from Matrix) Doug Jones doesn't have that distinctive a voice and apparently doesn't mind being dubbed. However it is his voice in Pan's Labyrinth as the Faun.

Ah. Okay.

So that was his voice. I'd wondered, and heard both that it was him and that it wasn't. Either way, he apparently memorized a bunch of lines in archaic Spanish -- now that's dedication!

NOW I wanna see it, LOL. Didn't care before.

BTW, went over to your home page for a bit to look at the puppets and other photo's. You do great work! I'm the crafty type and been sewing since I was 13 so I get the bit about thread. And material. LOL.

Very, very beautiful daughter BTW.

Thanks. Yeah, Caroline is the light of my life even when she is driving me crazy.

There are a bunch of pages of the costumes that are missing right now. I have to poke and see where I put them so you can see the kind of costumes I do.

Hold on I found it!
