Spiderman was Fun but not FUN

Considering the plethora of films that are coming out this summer that I want to see, I am trying to keep up with my movie watching since almost every weekend seems to herald another film I want to see. Yesterday Ariel and I went to see Spiderman 3 in a quiet movie theater (i.e. mostly adults who wanted to see the film and not just text and talk while the film is on). So spoilers of course behind the cut and in the comments
Overall good performances and good direction but (you knew there was a but) I could have used at least one less villain (It didn't work for Batman why would it work for Spiderman?) and a few less angst scenes between Peter and MJ. I got that MJ was hurting and felt like she was losing everything and didn't need the continuous reminders.
It would have been fine with just the Sandman and Green Goblin JR. I really think they could have held Venom for a 4th film. I really did like Harry Osborne's thread in the story although Deus Ex Butler is getting rather old. Out of the three villains, I think the best performance was given by Thomas Haden Church.
I am glad that I did see it on the big screen because there would be a lot lost on the fight scenes.
I am grateful for such a great slate of movies this summer
