This is one that could have been put anywhere in the season except for the last couple of lines of dialogue.

I like this one over all. I won't let Caroline watch it for obvious reasons like children in peril (I know it is only a little peril but I still feel uncomfortable letting her see it). It was a good old fashion Mystery Episode where we the viewer were clued into what is going on and then get to watch as the Doctor sorts out the situation.

Again the casting director has done a wonderful job of finding the right actors for the job. They really haven't missed a beat this season in that department.

Sci-Fi has decided that they are going to show the final episodes back to back which is fine by me because I can't wait to talk about the second episode.

Of course Spoilers behind the cut and in the comments

Which is as close to a Torchwood reference as you are going to get from this episode.

Domestic Violence seems to be a theme this season or at least in a number of the episodes. Confronting the abuser is part of the healing process in these episodes. How Chloe and her mother get rid of the monster in the closet is rather original if you hadn't been an avid watcher of Sapphire & Steel. It is also interesting to see how the memories of her father affect Chloe in ways that her mother probably never knew.

The alien is not trying to harm anyone. It is the classic misunderstanding between alien and human. Fortunately the Doctor is there to solve the problem before the world is sucked into the drawings. I couldn't tell (or can't remember) if the mother knew about her daughter's "powers". I do know that the mother knew that something was a bit off about her child and she was protecting her. I do think that because I have a child this episode had echoes for me that others without children probably wouldn't get.

The plot point about the street was well played. The build up of how one part of the street is strange and the local crew can't figure out what is wrong was a nice comic touch to a rather spooky episode and a lot of credit has to go to Abdul Salis who played Kel.

Now wouldn't it be cool if they let David Tennant light the torch in his Doctor Who outfit in 2012? Won't happen but a fun fan thing to think about.

I am grateful to the Casting Director for Doctor Who.

I said EXACTLY the same thing to my husband while we were watching this!

I was cracking up over the whole "I'm telling the Council!" rant as well.

Really enjoyed it as well!

I've always preferred the character-driven Misunderstanding/Fish out of Water stories vs. EVIL FROM THE DAWN OF TIIIIIIIME! plots.

(I also have to go back and rewatch this now that I've seen Casanova, as the mother is played by the same actress as did Casanova's gender-bending lover. It's going to add a whole new layer, knowing that.)
