Sorry Sean. I know it was yesterday.

A year ago Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast causing great devastation in its wake. All I have been hearing about is New Orleans and how things are going there. I had to really dig to find out about those who lost everything in Mississippi which is also rebuilding. I still wonder what happened to all the lovely folks we met at Crescent City Con. I guess someone had foresight to call it quits with that one.
Belated Happy Birthday to my brother Sean. I knew yesterday was your birthday since that is one of the few birthdays I manage to keep straight in my head expect when I was writing in my web log yesterday. Sean is very talented in many fields. He decides he want to do something and then figures out how to do it. His fandom name is Doc Whoopee and he is very well known for his themed parties at ChattaCon which also appear at other conventions. He learned how to weld so he could fabricate things out of metal that he wanted. He has this incredible bar set up that he created that is very portable.
He and I had a short stint as dealers at various conventions where we had a button maker and could make custom button but our eye candy were his Plexiglas swords and daggers. Those are collectables now since he hasn't made any of since he started college. He taught me how to do it but I haven't played with it for years. They were very good looking but very labor intensive.
Sean got his drivers license before I did even though I am the eldest in our clan. He bought an old Pontiac Tempest from our friend Derek which was a gas guzzling tank but had great pick up. One of my fond memories was driving through a small town in Alabama on our way to some convention and all the pick-up trucks were blasting country music so Sean countered with Prince album "Purple Rain." Sean was involved in both the big X-men and New Mutant costumes which we did with our friends.
I am grateful that not only is Sean my brother, he is also my friend.

Date: 2006-08-29 05:18 pm (UTC)See, I thought I was older than you. Like, 88 whole days older. ;)
See you at the con! Maybe we can rope Kathy and Peter into the now-traditional dinner?
