This year at the beach I have seen more people bring their cars/trucks/vans/Hummers to the beach. They unload enough stuff to furnish a medium size apartment and grab a chunk of beach to claim as their own. Tents go up and they set up for a day at the beach. This in itself is fine. I object to the boom boxes blasting out music and the portable game systems with their noise factor. You have the surf and the natural noises of the area. If you don’t want to hear the ocean then stay at your hotel room/condo/beach house/trailer and look out the window at the beach. I want to hear the ocean and the birds with the occasional buzzing of a bug. If you want or have to play games then again your room is a wonderful place to do that. Noise pollution is a nasty thing. Your musical tastes are not necessarily my taste and even if they are I still don’t want to hear it.

Cars are allowed on the beach. There is an area for them to drive on. Note that this is a one way beach and when you bring your Hummer the wrong way then you are causing problem. There was a satisfaction that you got bogged down in the sand because you had to dodge an SUV coming the correct direction. Yeah, you got your vehicle out of it but I wouldn’t want to see what the sand did to your undercarriage. I really hope that you got a ticket as well.

I will give credit to all the pet owners I have seen so far. All dogs have been on leashes and the owners have taken care of their leavings. If a dog is romping in the surf, the owners have been watching them carefully to make sure that the animal is OK and that the other beach patrons are not disturbed. Also there has not been much trash on the beach. People are for the most part cleaning up after themselves.

I pick-up Ariel and Peter today. It will be nice to see them again. Other than that my day consists of the beach and the pool which is not a bad day at all.

I am grateful for the responsible people at the beach.

A day at the beach sounds just lovely. I miss that a lot, especially the beach I used to go to when I still lived with my parents. Not very big, car access to actual beach unheard-of (except on the boating beach, and even then they only came partway down the ramp to winch their catamarans in and out if the beach's pulley system wasn't working). Low tide could get so low you felt like you could wade all the way to Long Island, and we had great fun tossing the (non-poisonous) jellyfish at each other. I can't remember radios ever being a problem. Mmm, I can almost smell the salt air now.... Thanks for reminding me. :-) Keep enjoying!

Thanks. I will. We figured out that we have been doing this since 1971 (35 years. I have a lot of memories from various trips including listening to the Watergate hearings on my small transitor radio. I can remember going to Kenndey Space Center and getting the VIP tour because my father had worked with someone who was of some importance there. Lots of fond memories. Now I am making more of them with my daughter.
