We have 3 cats that are part of the household. When we need to keep them contained, they live in the dining room. Other than that they roam the house except the kitchen and the bedrooms. It is not for lack of trying to get into those places either. The funny thing is that they know they are not supposed to be there and if you find them they give you the big-eyed kitty look "Oh am I in here? Really? Well let me just get out of here." As they dash for the door. I have trained them to come into the dining room when I rattle a can of treats. It is to the point that I can have two marbles in there and the sound brings them running.

They get along well with Caroline and Caroline loves them. In the morning each cat comes by Caroline to get their pets and good mornings from Caroline. If they have had enough of dealing with her chasing them then they go into the dining room. If they are especially fed-up they will close the door behind them. Caroline was coloring the other morning at the coffee table and Vanillie came up and sat at her feet and purred. She absent-mindedly petted him and then went back to coloring all her ponies purple or pink. I like that the cats and Caroline do get along very well. We worked hard to make sure that they did. She learned at an early age how to pet a kitty and not to pull on ears or tails. She also has learned that cats sometimes want to be left alone and now she is big enough to do so without prompting. She never disturbs a sleeping kitty. If she needs one moved she gets an adult to do it.

Peter calls me the great Cat Mommy since the furballs will do what I say for the most part. I am the one that can get them into their carriers with minimal fuss when they need to go to the vet or the groomers. I am the one that they follow around the house when I let them. They want to be in whatever room I am in. Peter thinks that they on some level know that Caroline is my "cub" and if they do something to her I will come down on them like a ton of bricks which has happened once or twice and not necessarily because of something they have done to Caroline. So apparently I am the alpha human in their eyes.

Right now I have Stalin on the couch behind my neck asleep. Vanillie is on one side and Millie is on the other both purring. I occasionally stop typing and give them a scritch or two which makes the purring louder. They are happy cats.

Funny thing is that I always saw myself as a dog person. People who have known me a long time had me pegged as a dog person and here I am with 3 very happy house cats.

I am grateful that we have such even-tempered cats.
