I'm still processing all I saw and heard at the show which can take a couple of days.

Corteo from the Italian for cortege which is define as

1. A train of attendants, as of a distinguished person; a retinue. 2a. A ceremonial procession. b. A funeral procession.

According to the Cirque Du Soliel site Corteo

is a joyous procession, a festive parade imagined by a clown. The show brings together the passion of the actor with the grace and power of the acrobat to plunge the audience into a theatrical world of fun, comedy and spontaneity situated in a mysterious space between heaven and earth.

And considering how they had the stage set up this time it was a good word to use. The stage in the middle so if you were on one side of the audience there was no way to get to the other side without going out and around the tent or across the stage. So there was a stage fit for processing. The rig above was amazing and allowed for more and varied flying effects than I had even seen in a Cirque show.

It starts with the words "I dreamt of my funeral" and goes on mad-capped from there.

We left the house giving us plenty of time because it was a Friday and Friday traffic on Long Island can be a royal pain. We managed to navigate our way through a couple accidents and arrived in plenty of time.

Cirque is Peter's wedding anniversary present to me every couple of years when a new show comes through. We got the Tapis Rougue seating which comes with parking, restrooms that have a lot fewer people via for them, a few goodies, and a tent with air condition to wait in before the show with free food and drink. Considering that the temperature was in the high 80 which is only worse in the sales tents so the air conditioning was worth the price of admission. They also have props and costumes from other shows and very nice seating. Caroline loved it in there.

Act one started with the clown in bed while others came to pay their respects which of course turned into the first act which was a group of women doing acrobatic moves on chandeliers. This juxtapositioned into probably Caroline's favorite act in the first half of the show which was a bunch of acrobats jumping on a couple of beds. Sounds simple but it has to be seen to be believed. We then had clowns, midgets, and a giant doing various pieces of shtick which allowed them to set up for the next act.

A lot of this show is in the air and of course there are a million and 3 things going on around while the main acting is playing out. Caroline paid close attention to most of it. She got a little antsy during some of the slow parts but over all she had a great time. We were a little concerned because she hadn't napped at all and she can be a handful when she is really tired. We really didn't need to worry.

We went back to the tent and they had desserts set up including a chocolate fondue that Caroline took to like a duck to water. So all sugared up we went back in for act 2. Caroline's favorite part in that one was a piece with the female midget hanging from a bunch of balloons. She kept pointing and asking when it was going to be her turn. This kid has no fear. She also so wanted a go on the teeter-totter and the bars. I could so see her down the road working for Cirque.

Overall my impressions are of course colored by seeing this show through my daughter's eyes but that is fine by me. I really enjoyed it. I found it uplifting and satisfying. There is an energy at the show that is generated between the cast and the audience which I have never really felt anywhere else except when I perform with puppets. The connection between the two is almost. I experience this each and every time I go to see a Cirque Du Soliel show and it renews my artistic spirit.

I am grateful that I saw Corteo
