Stanislaw Lem has passed away. He was one of the greats in science fiction literature but you didn't dare tell him that his work was science fiction. "I've always believed in science, but I write about the real world," he said. "So I write about what is happening, only in my own way, in my own terms." He is survived by his wife and son. His writing style when well translated was thrilling to read. Even badly translated there was always something about his work that made you take note of it. He survived the Nazis and the Soviets and was given a degree of literary freedom that most of his fellow Polish writers never saw during those times. He was described as a character by the few people I know that met him. He will be missed.

Weather is improving. We now need some rain to make up for what is becoming a water deficit since it has been a very dry March. Our daffodils are making their appearance. Depending on Caroline' cold, I may take her down to the park today to play. Other than that I have a swap I have to finish my part of and get it shipped off. Then I have some stuff to read for other people. After that I think I have some time for myself to work on a project I have been wanting to work on but have had to push it back to take care of a couple of other things. I am fighting a cold. I can feel my nose clogging up and the back of my throat has a tickle that is driving me crazy. I am hoping to head it off at the pass because I really don' t have time to be sick. But then who does?

I am grateful that my father introduced me to the works of Stanislaw Lem.
