I have just finished shoveling (and I use the term loosely) our front walk so we are in compliance with the town ordinances which gives you 24 hours from the end of the storm to get your front walk cleaned up. Peter has blown out his right knee so shoveling is not on his list of things to do. This is fine by me because I still like to shovel snow with the emphasis on snow not the ice rink that is outside of our home. I am waiting on our back steps until the ice has had a chance to melt a bit.

Caroline and I had an adventure getting to "Mommy and Me" and an adventure getting home. The place we go is further west and they got a lot more ice and snow then we did making travel difficult. It was not so much going as coming back. The mothers exchanged cell numbers and we kept each other up to date on hazards as a couple of us worked our way east. I save a couple people probably a lot of time because I saw a spin out behind me that was blocking the entire road. It took almost 2 hours for normally a 40 minutes tops trip but we arrived home safe with minimum fish tailing. The biggest problem was the ice that rapidly built up on the roads. So once home we stayed indoors.

Caroline and I might venture out later but this is not as much fun as the last snowstorm. It is not snow out there but ice which makes a fun crunch crunch crunch sound but you can't play in it. I'll ask her what she wants to do later.

Now about the rant I had already to go yesterday. An art jury rejected a friend of mine who converts wooden boxes in to lovely pieces of decoupage art the other day because they deemed his work more craft than art. This was a show that he had displays in previously and had done quite well in terms of sales. Last year the head of the show stepped down from that position due to advancing age and not wanting to deal with the problems that go with an art show. Now my friend is very careful to use images that are in public domain so that is a not at issue here. He got to talk to one of the members of the jury after he got the news. He found out that his work was the most debated of all that was being looked at. He was informed that if he had made the boxes or drawn the images on the boxes then it might have gone the other way. I know it is a hard call of when something is craft or art. I think my buddy's work is art because of the way he puts the boxes together as a whole. Then there is the whole stamping and scrap-booking craze. Are these scrap books going to be looked upon as works of art or just a craft that some people are really good at? I have seen some that I would consider works of art. I think that art juries need to rethink the traditional boundaries that they are stuck in and take a good look at what people are doing. I know it comes down to that intangible "What is Art?" question which will never have a definitive answer.

I am grateful that what I do people consider as Art.
