I have to back up a day as I was informed by e-mail that I hadn't said anything about Caroline and the Ice Show. She loved it. From the moment she saw Mickey Mouse she was hooked. I don't think she realized that everyone was skating but I do know that she was following the plot in some form. We had perfect seats in what was the press box. This allowed Caroline to have an unobstructed view but we also had a wall that she couldn't get over so I felt better when she was bouncing around to the music. She danced, laughed and screamed at what was going on. She only became scared and climbed up into my lap when Syndrome captured Mickey and Minnie. So all in all it was a good outing and well worth it. Next I think we are going to try to take her cousins and her to see Disney Princesses on Ice.

Weather is that bitter, cold, wet, autumn weather that can get into your bones. No snow or ice so far but the sky has that hue that foretells of snow to come. Good day for hot chocolate and a book.

Kathleen's 2005 Thanks list continued still in no particular order

1. I am thankful for the job interviews I had this year. At this point I considered it a triumph if I can go talk to someone face to face. With the internet I feel like I am tossing my resume into a bottle and hoping someone will pick it up. Of course it is also much easier to find jobs I think I would be good for. I also appreciate companies that respond even it they don't want to interview you. At least you know that there is no hope for that position.

2. I am thankful for the gigs I did pick up this year. Freelancing is not for those who need the security of a paycheck every pay period. This has been a pretty lean year for me but I am also thankful that Peter has picked up so much work that it hasn't been an issue. It has been a pretty lean year for the industry. I re-titled a professional party I went to as "Brother can you spare a manuscript?" for the number of times I heard that various editors had "gone freelance" which seems to be the new euphemism for no longer working for the company and having benefits (see yesterday's grateful for health insurance)

3. I am thankful for some of the continuing education opportunities I had this year. I took a doll making class from Wendy Froud who is an artist that I have admired for years. Bonus was the fact that Toby was there too. So we got two Frouds for the price of one. I learned a lot in those two days. Then I took a puppetry course from John Tartagilia which I learned bunches and made some great new friends. I honestly had little idea who John was before I took the course but now understand the jaw drop when I tell people that I took a class from him. I am hoping to take classes from both in the coming years.

4. I am thankful for the groups I am part of on the internet. They give me information and another perspective on things. The professional groups are a wealth of information on various subjects I am interested in. The costumers I have now met in person because I talked to them online who have helped me figure out how to complete more than one costume. Then there is my doll group which has one of the nicest bunch of people around who are there to cheer you on when things are good and pick you up when things aren't so good. I am so glad that I joined each and every one of them. Of course there is the group I belong to that I must not speak of but am glad I am a member of it and I know the secret handshake.

5. I am thankful for my web log. It has allowed others to keep up with me which can be hard at times. It had also enabled me to meet others who I might not have except they ran across this blog either through Peter's or from something I wrote that they stumbled across and found interesting. When I started writing this I hadn't a clue who might read it besides my immediate family and a couple of friends. Now I have a better idea and I am thankful to each and everyone of you for taking the time to read it.

I am grateful for the opportunities I have had this year both good and bad.
