Happy 80th Birthday to My Father
Nov. 14th, 2018 09:35 amToday is Prince Charles’ birthday and the actor Paul McGann and My Father.
This is his 80th year on that planet and in that time he has done a lot.
My father is a fine example of someone who worked very hard to improve his situation in life. He is the child of immigrants who became a college professor in physics and so much more.
He had to work for everything he now has in his life. He was blessed with great intelligence and imagination and had used both to better himself. He is very creative and artistic as well.
He gave me my love of sports. I learned the rules for baseball, football, basketball and golf at his knee.
He made sure that we knew that science was all well and good but without art, we are diminished as a people.
He made sure that we knew that he loved us even when things at work got really busy. He took the time to spend some time with each of us so we knew that we had his total attention.
My love of photography came from watching my father’s passion for the subject. He taught me about framing the picture in the camera lens. His egret series over the years is amazing to see. His photo series of places he has been are stories in photo form.
He is a wordsmith. He taught me the importance of language and finding the right word to express myself. We were expected to speak without accent and with a decent vocabulary. I think he lucked out that he had four children who also loved language as much as he did.
He raised four rather strong headed individuals with very different personalities to be productive members of society.
He instilled in us the importance of ‘never stop learning’ . He still explores topics that interest him and learns all he can.
He’s my go to IT guy.
Dad,
Happy Birthday! I love you very much and am very proud to be your daughter.
love,
Kathleen
I am grateful for my father in more ways than I think he will ever know.
