Happy World Puppetry Day 2018
Mar. 21st, 2018 08:27 amToday is a celebration of everything puppet.
Here is a sketch I performed at the 2012 DragonCon Puppetry Slam
It is Peter singing the song but the audience was pretty quick on the up take and by the end they were singing along.
I am a puppeteer. I really can’t remember a time that I didn’t have puppets in my life in one form or another. When I am introduced to people it is as a puppeteer. I wear the title proudly.
I am part of that odd tribe of doll wigglers, as the Great Gonzo called us, that use puppetry to entertain, to teach, and anything else we can come up with.
Puppetry has been around since Unk the caveman first performed with shadow puppets made by their hands on the cave wall using the fire as their light source and that’s a pretty long time.
Puppets can be as complicated or simple as you care to make them. They also don’t complain if there are unfinished seams in their costumes.
I love watching performers perform and the audience who gets caught up in the magic of puppetry.
So Happy World Puppet Day, celebrate by doing or seeing something puppety.
I am grateful I am a puppeteer.
